I told her we weren't comfortable talking about ourselves and left her wondering
Rick,
that's the best response ever. Similar thing happened to my wife and I when we got married back in 2006 (had TV Cameras, tons of photogs, etc. there). We drew a crowd of about 300 and made the evening news. It's not Oakley related (except for the fact that one of my groomsmen and I were wearing Juliets), so I won't get into details here.

Definitely one of the stand-out moments from Mike's (and Rick's) story is the commotion caused outside the store. As Mike referenced, it was quite a spectacle having the two wankers strutting their stuff and a handful of cameras going crazy inside the store. Before you knew it, there were crowds at the windows and hanging around just outside the doors trying to figure out what A-list celebrity sighting they were witnessing.

I think the closest I overheard was some reference to Crocodile Dundee.... ;)

here's how i recovered one of my 0/20 MX goggles :

Back in the 80's i was a young motocross rider who got lucky to be wearing oakley MX goggles , the 0/20 goggles was the first batch i wore, and many other models followed.
Then some 20+ years later , my mom and dad decide to move house, and were busy in the attick ( correct word ? ) to put all of their stuff into boxes. At one point my dad called me and said: hey fred , i found to pairs of motocross goggles new in the box, what shall i do with them ? Needless to say , before my dad hung up , i was already there to check out these goggles. I was amazed to see to brand new pairs of 0/20 goggles in their boxes !!!
I took them home , and opened the boxes, the foam was completely dreid up , and already started to fall apart. So i closed the boxes of them ,and gave them a spot in my collection.
I have good memories wearing them in the 80's , and i have a good story behind the ones i have now...

One of my more memorable pairs have been the Chantry Hijinx. It was pretty much the first release of the artist series that would be available in the US, and the release party was held in Seattle. I think I only found out about the release party a day or two prior to the event. At the time (aka 'life prior to the copilot event'), attending this party was a true highlight of my Oakley passion. I felt like I was the only true Oakley fanatic there, instead of the number of people and o-store employees there for the free food and limitless drinks.

I showed up with my yellow shoe 1's on, which I think helped catch the eye of the Oakley coordinators at the event. It was great to chat with some of the guys and gals that had organized the event. I was told they only had 3 pairs to give away, but was also told to stick around and they would make sure I got one. As the evening progressed, I felt bad for the organizers because Art Chantry was supposed to show up for the event - but he was standing them up. Later on, the guy actually asked me who else I thought should get the other 2 pairs they had to give out - which was all done a bit on the sly since they weren't doint any grand drawing or anything. While I regret not selecting the 2 peeps better for the other pairs, I still walked away from that party on a serious Oakley high with the Chantry Hijinx in tow along with insane amounts of microfiber bags, posters and post cards.

After the event, it was a great continuation to share my excitement here on the review and be in a position to pass on the posters, cards and microfiber bags to members.

In some cruel twist of fate, I actually lost that pair or had it stolen while at a local mall a couple months later. As crushing as that was, it made the release of the eyewear exciting again. As this was the first 'normal' artist release, all our early indications pointed towards limited dealers and locations that could get it. So I worked ahead of time with my favorite little surf shop in Oregon, and ordered 2 pairs with the expectation that I could pass the other pair on to a member here that was unable to source a pair. Oddly enough, snagging a Chantry Hijinx became no problem at all ... and I still have that 2nd pair sitting in box.

That's a great story Paul. I remember reading your post when you first told us about it and could definitely tell how amped you were.

Awesome stories guys - I'm loving these.

Here's my most recent. Short but cool.

Went to Dallas for a few days over New Years to see the wife's family. Met 2 new OR Members (both by accident) and got 2 "Dann is the Man" and 1 "Bong ain't wrong". Either the outside world is getting smaller or our world is getting larger.

Also hit a few goals... Finally, finally got a doublewide. It's sitting outside the hotel in the back of the truck in Edmond, OK. Hopefully it'll make the rest of the trip home tomorrow without a 'Josh' incident. It was 50 in Dallas and 9 in KC. Brrrr....

Also - thanks to some good direction from a fellow OR member, I managed to land the black Oakley Cuban Fedora. Awesome hat! My fav of the 3.

This year has started out well...

Back in 2004, I was in Montgomery, AL (Lake Martin to be more specific). My oldest son was only 5 at the time. I took him out on the jet ski and puddling around. I came back to the dock to see my wife asleep sun bathing, I thought it would be funny to splash her with the rooster tail of the jet ski. As I gunned and turned it my son thought it would be funny to jerk the handle bars. I had on a pair of Sub Zero (Carbon frames), I lost them as we turned over, in 13 ft water. As she is yelling at me for splashing her, he is yelling because he is in the water, I am yelling at both of them because I lost my glasses. After I tried snorkling for them for years with no luck. Last year there was a bad drought and water was down enough to where I could walk down and find them. I restored the rubbers on them and they are in my case again...vowed never to move again.

I wish I had more stories like some of the people on here. By comparison, mine seem less than climactic. First off, November of 2008, Sunglass Hut came out with the holiday special editions of the Gascan and Hijinx. They were the ones with the camouflage icons. My girlfriend, Liz, was with me at the time, and witnessed me drooling over the three different pairs. I'm big into camo, as I've been in the military for the past 12 years, so these were a small holy grail at the time. Sure enough, Christmas morning, I open a box with Gascans in it. It was right then and there that I knew I was going to marry her. As of now, we've been married 9 months, she has her own collection of Oakleys, and my collection has expanded by over 60 since last Christmas. Now, she's more excited to go to the "local" vault than I am, and every time I see a pair that I like, I run them by her first, and she always tells me that they're pretty and that I should get them. This past Christmas Eve, she picked me up a pair of the Frosted Blue Oil Rigs. Hopefully this is a holiday tradition that will continue throughout our lives.

As the story goes on this doublewide and as far as I can gather - it has traveled quite extensively.

LA to Maine, to Connecticut to Dallas, then to KC. It's traveled more than I. Wonder where it'll end up.
