Has anyone hear ever had any issues with finding a major scratch on a lens after cleaning it with the microbag?

I.m a little POed at the moment. I bought a pair of Metalic Red/ VR28 Black Iridium Flak Jackets just under 2 weeks ago. I just took them off and figured they could use a cleaning using the supplied microbag, as directed. I thought this would be quick and painless with the new hydrophobic lenses and all. So without bearing down on the lens, I wiped them off carefully, check them in the light to make sure it all clean, and what do I find? A rather nasty looking scratch on the bottom of the lens near the nose piece (right lens). It looks like its on the back side of the lens. Anybody ever have an issue like this? This isn't an issue with the newer lens is it? I've been looking forward to getting a pair of the Flak Jackets and up to this point I really like them. But if this is qoing to be a recurring thing then I'll stick with my Half Jackets and other older stuff. Sorry just kinda venting

hey, i have cleaned thousands of glasses with microbags and never had one scratch a single lens, are you sure that something else could not have done it and you just didn't see it? oh and the hydro stuff cleans super easy nanos are the easiest I have come accross so far. Good luck in the future with them, I would not let that steer you away from another flak though.

Are you 100% sure there was no dirt on the bag? Where has the bag been in the last 2 weeks?

maybe the scratch was caused when u took it out of the frame, when the lens brushed against the edges of the frame.

ive been throwing my red radar around like mad and its still perfect. no scratch even. so.. also surprised to hear.

Positive on that. I checked them in some light before I cleaned and it wasn't there.

Can't say I'm positive, but I check it all over before I used the bag. Its one of many that I have sitting in a drawer in my dresser, so it should be dust free.

Negative. I haven't changed the lenses. I took the scratched one out to inspect the scratch, but thats the only time I've had a lens out.

Oh well, no big deal. I'll just get some new ones at some point.

Microbag sucks. I have personally scratched lenses from that damn thing too. The problem is after a while (no matter how careful you are sometimes) they tend to pill where you'll get little parts of the bag that fray and form little ball things. These then can catch little pieces of dirt, sand, dust, etc and in return scratch the holy hell out of your lenses.

I will only use extrememly fresh microbags and only if I'm extremely desperate. Otherwise if lenses are really dirty it's pop-out mild soap and water/damp clean with a clean cloth. For everyday wipe down I use a Zeiss brand cloth that does a fantastic job with oils and in my experience is much softer on your lenses without the potential for pilling.

Can you buy zeiss brand cleaning cloths stand alone, or do they only come with their optical stuff

I have the same problem a couple of days ago when I was cleaning my Ducati Oil Drum. Yet, I couldn't find the "dirt" on the pouch.
