Looking at mine, i think you could slide the lenses out sideways from nose piece to earstems? Push the lens in at the corner by the earstem from the iridium side, then from behind slide the lens accross. seems doable if you are brave

it does seem that way, but trust me, I tried with a destroyed pair one day and they wouldn't budge not even a millimeter...The teeth on the bottom lock them in I think, which in theory was a great design, that turned into a design flaw...They had to exchange the whole pair as warranty items when one had a defective lens which was quite costly!

I tried that method with a Valve and it worked, but never with a Switch. Good thing I didn't.

I tried using a small screwdriver and a pend pen leverage and nothing...they are set for sure against sliding out...I f'd up the lenses too!

Sounds like trashing the lens to get them out is the way to go, but it's kinda sad...

I would say if you can bend one out without distorting it too bad, you can then reproduce one that will slide in from the side and you can reduce the size of the teeth allowing them to hold in place and be removed with minor to moderate effort later...That would be my guess, but I won't condier tearing up mine to find out...If I can get one, I will figure a way because that is my 2nd favorite style for comfort and wearability...

It's good to see this place back up and running. I just scored myself a Mag Switch. It is used but in absolute ten out of ten condition. The seller was a collector.

Quick question, I have always kept half an eye on discussions about the fragility of the ceramic coating. When I get any used Oakleys I always give them a thorough rub down with an anti bacterial wipe and then immediately wipe down with a damp cloth to get rid of any chemical residue. I have never had any problems with this but I am a bit hesitant to do this with the switch.

I know sweat and suntan lotion are a killer. Does anyone have any advise on cleaning and general wear, maintenance?

Basically as long as the ceramic coating is intact, it will do a good job protecting the magnesium. If it rubs off due to physical contact, that will be the real trouble. Then any additional moisture will cause some corrosion. There are two main common points where this happens. In the original release, the stems would over close and hit the orbitals. Later gen's put a piece of plastic in the hinge so it would stop in the proper location.

The second point is under the ear socks. When they are coating, they have to be held somehow, so they chose the ear stem where it would later be covered by the socks. But as the unobtainium absorbs sweat, it deposits the moisture right into that unprotected spot, causing tumors. My brothers are really rough.

Cheers Dann

That’s good to know. Might kept them for display and special occasions.

I remember seeing pictures of a switch recovered from an extended stay at the bottom of a swimming pool. They looked pretty gnarly. Don’t know if it was on here though.

Nice job getting things back up and running.

Even though I wasn’t stopping by on a daily basis they way I would years ago, I still felt the absence. You put in a crazy amount of work, are you accepting PayPal donations towards running costs, beer and the odd replacement ear sock?

Yeah Ollie found those and cut some G26 for them. Was ages ago. I was tempted to do the same back when they were dirt cheap.

Haha, I think dirt cheap means something quite different on your side of the ocean.

I noted you deftly sidestepped the financial question.

Let me buy you a beer! If nothing else it’s a return on investment given the amount of buying advice I have been able to get through your hard work.

Haha, its no worries.

Like X-Metals, these could be bought for $50-80 at vaults for a short while.
