acetone evaporates fast too, but I wouldn't use it to clean glasses. a solvent is a solvent.

No, I didn't say clean them with acetone. I was just saying I used it to strip whiskey paint off a Fatcat and it had no ill affects on the frame.

Phil, I was refering to the 99% (un-diluted apparently) that the OP used to clean his lenses.

Using diluted alcohol, while probably not the best solution (hahaha pun), is pretty well accepted.

Yeah. It should be dilluted if used. Esp 99%. Like most here though, we may never know why it cracked Josh's frame.

Josh, the alcohol level in the cleaning kits is tiny. 10% or thereabouts, although the company that makes the stuff has had problems in the past with certain batches having way too much alcohol in them.

Phil knows more about that, probably- I think those batches went to SGH.

still unclear, but maybe there was internal stress in the frame and the cooling properties of the alcohol caused it to crack like that...

Yeah, back in 1999/2000 those "bad" bottles came our way. Luckily it was one specific bottle, metallic red, but man did it ruin lenses.

no effect what so ever on the lenses, just the frame. I worry more about applying painter's tape to the lenses while cutting than I ever would for alcohol. I think perhaps prolonged use or exposure to alcohol could have ill effects, but I don't think a quick wipe will do anything other than clean them...At least this tells me all frames go back to the ultrasonic only, and lenses are cleaned outside of the frame...
