Well let's see. Black iridium is grey with iridium baked on. Grey has a 18% transmission at the backsurface and Black iridium is 10% supposedly.
In order to legally market a darker lens, Oakley might have to jump through hoops if you'ra talking about a 5% transmission lens. That's dark! You're talking about removing an additional 50% of the light we see through black iridium. Probably only for use atop Mt. Kilamanjaro.
Since the iridium coat reflects or absorbs, 44.444% of the light on the black iridium lens, I'm assuming that making the coat thicker isn't really a solution. Oakley COULD make the lenses a little thicker and get the same effect. A thicker lens would yield a lower transmission.
