Posting this from Singapore. Went to the service centre in Singapore to get my riddle fixed due to some cracks in the lens and the lens doesnt seems to fit firmly in the frame. So as I got in there, I got the shock of my life when I saw the revised price of servicing the shades after their 1 year warranty.

It used to be SGD30 (with proof of purchase aka receipt) and SGD60 (without proof of purchase) to replace the FRAME.

After 1 April 2006, this has changed.. it ranges from 35 - 100 , depending on which type of FRAME u got. That is with proof of purchase.

Without proof of purchase, it ranges from 95 - 595 (titanium being the most expensive).. man! i think this is crazy

Is oakley telling us to either take care of our stuffs properly or dont buy them? Its work out to be cheaper to get just another new pair...

What do you guys think?

NOTE: I'm talking about the frame.. not lenses....

I'm just thinking aloud, but perhaps the sudden spike in price is somehow due to the amount of overpriced Oakley lens kits coming out of Singapore. Is it possible people are sending in pairs for replacement lenses and then turning around and selling them on eBay? Perhaps Oakley got wise to it so as a preventative measure decided to up the rates? But then, what do I know?

Definitely Denise!!....

The price are indeed ridculous IMHO....who would in their sane mind pay those type of figures to get the frame repaired when you can get a brand new pair with new frame and lenese off ebay...

The slightly defective pair could then be sold off as replacement part to other ppl that needs them... though not worth much, but still would offset the purchase of a brand new pair off ebay....

And how long are we to keep the receipts??
being a very careless person...i am not that good with small scraps of paper here and there...and to keep it for over 1 year just in case i need to repair the sunnies is kinda hard....i also find it hard to comprehend the weird rule that without a receipt you would have to pay a higher price to get the item repaired!!

its not like we are sending in fake items to be repaired...we are sending in our pride and joy which have gone through some wear and tear due to prolonged usage by us....and what we get is remember to bring that piece of paper that you got after you paid.......

Has this got to do with a changed in Oakley's policy ?? would prefer customers to change and buy a brand new pair of sunnies than stick to old beat up pair?? Just thinking....

I might be bias in my views but i guess it has got alot to do with my bad experiences at the Singapore service centre....
Rant Over!!......just what i feel though.....

I sure hope this price hike is just unique to Singapore. Could anyone confirm that the increased fees for replacement is not a new worldwide policy?

I, for one know that the authorized dealer in Singapore is notoriously rigid and prices for Oaks there are exorbitant, even more than what it cost in Japan.

Just out of curiousity, how much does an authorized retailer receive from Oakley for the sale of their product? I've heard of staff getting 20% off the retail and it comes with a valid warranty to boot.

Yeah prices are pretty much crazy for all Oakley items here in Singapore...

That is partly due to the many hands it goes through and freight charges i guess....either that or the Authorised importer is makng 1 big killing for the them...

Sadly , there's nothing we can do it about it.
Take better care of our oakleys like our 2nd wife and there shouldn't be any problems , cheers! =P

Not sure how it works elsewhere, but here in Japan, I can walk into HQ and get lenses replaced for around $70-$80, but they keep the lenses that are being replaced. Does this kind of service exist in Singapore, and if so have the rates risen with the other warranty increases?

ok thanks for clearing that up stitch. yeah the lenses are ONLY free if its a defect. lenses can range from $40-$90 USD. it depends on the lense/frame. (and the pol M-Frame lenses are $120-$150 USD)

Rick, not sure how much is it exactly to get the replacement lenses but from my understanding if its after the 1st year and you need to replace lenses.. you are buying it.. which can range from 120 - 150SGD (i know ruby and fire about 142SGD)

anyway back to the frame.. anyone check out how much is it to replace the FRAME after the 1st year... with or without proof of purchase?
