Today I was riding my hog on the freeway, all of a sudden the car in front of me kicks up some rock and it hits me in the right eye, luckily I was wearing my Gascans at the time and now there is a deep scratch in the right lens..

Is there anyway to fix it other than buying new lenses. I just bought the gascans no more than 3 days ago..and now theyre scratched..

Are any of your oakleys scratched? Some say scratches add character and tell better stories. Let me know..whatever it is just make me feel better about it..

My Ruby Juliets have a fair size scratch on one of the lenses and I've contemplated replacing them, but like you said, it adds character to the glasses. It's like they have their very own war scar. I know they're insanely expensive glasses, but I don't care. It bothered me at first, because it's right through the Iridium but I really like it now. I'll try and get a pic if anyone wants to see it(I doubt it though).

If your dealer likes you they might switch them out. If it was the first time you went there but you're local they might still do it, because they know you'll come back.

Worth a try.

Otherwise, lens replacement is your only option.

Where's the scratch? Is it off to the side or right in the field of vision? I have nicked up lenses that I thought about replacing but I decided to keep them since they're off to the side and barely noticable when I'm wearing them and looking straight ahead.

On a side note; I think your story is the first I've read about someone getting in the eyes with a projectile. And the Oakleys holding up like they say they would is just extra cool. I mean, the closest I can come to your experience is that I've been hit in the face with a volleyball a couple of times while wearing M Frames but that's not quite the same thing.

Its kind of in the middle. If I had not been wearing the gascans, I would definitely be blind in the right eye. Hey Jamey, send me some pictures of the scratch.

Also, I cant see the scratch when I wear them..but it was damn scary getting hit in the face with the rock..those normally come fast..once I was hit in the chin and it broke the skin.

Oakley really is the best brand.

I wish I still had by Oakley factory pilot glasses with the Orange lenses that a rock hit when I was weed whacking.

I bet Oakley will replace the lens for a nominal fee, but you'll have to send your set of Gascans.

I say buy a whole new pair of Gascans & put the scratched ones on the shelf with honors like a retired secret service that took a bullet for you! You didn't happen to be going 102MPH at the time were you?

Just replace them and be thankful it wasnt your eye. $100 for a new pair is way cheaper than eye surgey or blindness.

Well then, Oakley's have indeed proved their claim in a real world situation! It's comforting. :^)

Definately Todd. I'm glad the impact protection on the O is so good.

Will, i'm so glad it was your pair of Gascans and not your eyes!
i agree with Todd, keep the old ones as a trophy and buy a new pair.

Yeah, I'm glad I was wearing mine too. I really wouldn't have wanted to take a whipping tree branch to the eye. I probably would've lost my eye if it weren't for my Oakley's.

I just bought a new pair today, so glad to hear they hold up. I was curious about the lenses to if you could replace them or if you just had to buy a new pair?

Good thing you had them Gascans on or you would be hoping Oakley came up with an eyepatch or something for your *touch wood* otherwise damaged cornea.

Bring it back the store with your receipt and see what they have to say. Some places are quite liberal in giving replacements although it is rare. Good war story by the way. That could now be your beater pair if all else fails.

yep, better bring it back to the store and try to be friendly with them. you only bought it 3 days ago, so maybe they'll replace them for you. i know a local store where you can upgrade to another oakley and pay only the price tag difference if something like this happen.

on a side note, you might even convince them to use your gascan as a display model with a tag like 'actual proof of impact protection from a small rock at 90 mph'

Actually Tick, with calculating the speed of the rock, and the speed of his travel, it was much faster than the 102mph testing by Oakley (as discussed deeply on our tour recently), so once again, it goes to show the product is much more functional than one would think...They are stylistic safety glasses if you will...I would pop them out, send in the frame (unless you are close enough to drop by HQ), and replace the lenses for about $50. Save the damaged lenses for a rememberance of how good the product you wear is. I have seen at HQ, the impact testing of competitor's products, and let me tell you, I would not be caught dead wearing anything else!!! Maui Jims, Ray Bans, etc...They all shatter (glass lenses), and the others crack up and splinter. The last ting you want in your irreplaceable eye, is a piece of expensive crap that failed causing you loss of sight or worse!! Just my $.02 cents worth of input. Good to hear youare in 1 piece and not harmed...
