Hi,

I bought a Racing Jacket on ebay with the box and sack as well and from the size of the lenses (65 mm wide) I assume it is a Gen 1.
Turned out my sweat has dissolved the lenses inside and I need replacements. (Is this even normal?)

Because of the above mentioned events I'm really curious if I have a genuine Oakley or I bought a fake one on ebay. I don't see any numbers written on the inside of the frame although I see a lot of reference to it on the internet.

Can you please help me figuring out this?

Thanks for your help in advance

The lens height is the main difference between gen 1 and 2. I only have the first. From top to bottom its 55mm, frame included.

Lens coatings can become damaged and start to peel if left exposed to sweat, dirt, oils or hair products over time. Basically, if they get gunked up during use and are not rinsed or cleaned and left to sit then yes it is normal (unfortunately). It is always best to gently rinse the lenses when you are done using the frame, or done for the day (whichever) if they are smudged up, then clean them with microclear and and a microfiber cloth.

I am willing to speculate, since you mentioned that you bought them on Ebay, that just your use alone probably didn't damage them. They might have already been damaged by the time you got them and your use may have only made it noticeable. Keep in mind this frame is "vintage" so you are talking about lenses that could be seven to fifteen years old. That may also have contributed to their deterioration.

From the pics the pair seems genuine, although I will admit the black frame does eat up the light and doesn't provide enough relief to tell for sure.
