I am looking at a pair of Vintage Frogskins (possibly Gen 2) and I just want to see if they are real.

We have a "fakes on eBay thread" in the off-topic section of the forum.

They're legit. The Gen1's (pre-1990ish) had the metal hinges. I had that scare the first time I bought a pair.

Thanks Dann! What do you guys think is a fair value on these?

And can the new Frogskin lenses fit in them?

New frogskin lenses don't fit as far as I now. However, the old do fit in the new...

I'm not good with estimating values. To me, I'd say 50-70, but I'm sure they'd go for higher. I think I paid $35 for mine.

Yeah I don't think I'd spend more than $70 on them.

But I've never held a set of these in person, are they heavier than the standard Frogskins? Do the stems get loose easily? Is the fit different?

Sorry for so many questions, I just want to make sure these will work before I attempt to buy them.

also should have Japan stamped into the earstem I believe the right one at the tip area if I am not mistaken. Last pair I had was that way.

yeah, the right ear stem has Japan on the tip and Oakley frogskins tm in the middle.
Their fit is quite different than the fit of the new frogskins. They clamp more on your head.

Agreed, the stems angle in a bit more, so there is a bit more pressure. Gen 2's should fit more like the Collectors.

And yeah, Japan is stamped on the tip of the earstems, which you can see in those pictures.

I hate to be a naysayer, but my 1st gens do not have screws on the inside of the metal hinges to hold the arms, they're more like rivets. Also, "Japan" is etched, while on this it seems to be printed in white....

Mine all have flathead screws, and I have more gen 1, than gen 2 (or collectors for that matter)

Well I just lost these by $1. Guy bid with 2 seconds left before I could counter bid. Guy out of nowhere too that didn't bid at all, I was watching this thing for 3 days and I lost it. I'm seriously pissed off right now.

Ebay item: 180877634439

If it was someone on here that got them I would gladly buy them from you for a little more than what you paid. I've never tried to buy anything on eBay and was trying to get a good deal on these because it was a steal!
