Got a new pair of VR28 Black Iridium Flak Jackets over the weekend. My right lens fogs when I wear them out in the cold... I thought the hydrophobic coating helps prevent fogging?

The hydrophobic/oleophobic coating resists smudging from skin oils and helps liquid water bead up and run off the lenses, but I am not aware of any anti-fogging properties. They still offer vented lenses on Radar, Jawbone, and Split Jacket, so that leads me to believe that the hydrophobic coating does nothing for fogging.

Wipe them down with your bag and give them a few min and they'll be just fine. Hot face next to cold air/glasses causes it.

It's weird because my SF Giants Flaks don't fog at all but these do quite a bit

I second the "contrast in temperatures". The coating isn't Anti-fog.

I have Radars and flaks that do the same thing.

Wasn't fogging the reason the beach volleyball guys pulled out the lenses of their glasses and just wore the frames?

Isn't the hydrophobic effect applicable only to the outside face of the lenses? Or has it been applied to both sides?

Outside only I believe

So, if Dann is correct (and I believe he is), then one could perhaps purchase that hydrophobic application that Oakley sells (or used to sell) that you can spray onto older lenses and get the hydrophobic "technology" newer lenses have. That is, spray on the inside face as well. Maybe if you try that and it solves the fogging, then perhaps we've made a very interesting and practically helpful discovery.

How about using the AFR solution Oakley sells for the Football visors on regular lenses. Has anyone tried this and is it ok to do so?

I thought the hydrophobic was both sides. Based on my experiences anyway.

Regardless Ben, spit on them like diving goggles. Rub that and it should help.

2 benefits - helps fogging and prevents people from wanting to borrow your shades....

The hydrophobic spray has been available since the Water Jacket came out, so that should hold true.

They also just launched a brand new hydrophobic kit...more like a hydrophobic highlighter. Way easier and cleaner to apply, and it seems to work a lot better than the old kit too!
