Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red Iridium
Alright, so I've worn these for a few days, and here is my review.
Fit: On the money. Where the old Straight Jacket used to have a nasty 'overhang' at the outside corners of my head (while still looking ok), the New Straight Jacket conforms to it. For me, these are a perfect fit, just like the Flak Jacket. The nosebombs are a welcomed addition, and its nice to have a modern, curvy frame again with earsocks. Very light weight as well.
Style: Lets face it, Oakley is trying to recycle product names from the 90's since they are established names the loyal customer base is already familiar and comfortable with purchasing. That said, these strike very little resemblance to the original SJ and the 2nd gen SJ. The front shape of the orbitals is the only similarity I see. The nosebridge converges and connects very similar to Half-jacket, but not as blunt. Enough with the criticizing, these glasses have lots of potential. This style (shape) is right on with what to expect from Oakley, and can be worn to work or to the beach. White chrome is more or less white pearlescent, but what I think I really like is the FMJ red on the ear stems and red icons. The ear stems have subtle, but distinctive definition. They appear to be two piece, but its not something you'll want to pry apart to customize. I kinda wish that they had lower orbital spoiler accents like my fiancee's Speechless frames.
Colorsways: I'll say it again, there is lots of potential for this frame, however, its up to Oakley to come up with some more exciting color combinations. White chrome/+Red aside, whats the point of having two piece earstems if its going to only be one color, or two very similar colors? I'd say that Cinder Red is my 2nd favorite color, but I'd really like to see a navy blue and a metallic green eventually as well.
Quality of Finish: The FMJ finish is 99.5% flawless. There are 1-2 tiny, 1/2-tip-of-a-pin paint run type flaws, but nothing worth complaining over, since that would mean having to wait another month for a different replacement with the same type of flaws. Yes, this has happened to me before. I imagine that no FMJ finish is 100%. The +Red is 100% flawless, with no iridium runs, bubbles, and/or factory pitting/overspray...yes, this has happened to me too. The hydrophobic coating makes the lenses feel like your buffing them with silk, rather than with a glorified t-shirt material. At one point, cleaning bags used to be close to silk until they decided to have them made in China. I probably will never remove the lenses for cleaning or customization due to the peeling-prone FMJ. Hopefully, the finish will stand up to sweat.
Overall, I'll go ahead give these 5 stars for being a fresh, non-fashion, comfortable, o-matter frame, which I'm sure lots of people will end up liking.
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: Positive Red
Oakley has done well with this re-release. The original straight jacket was pretty good, but this is even better. They have added unobtanium nose pieces and new technology with the hydrophobic lens coating. You can sweat all day with these and they will repell sweat and rain and won't slide off of your nose. The eye coverage is fantastic and leaves no space for light to get in between your face and these shades. They have re-designed the looks and given them a sharp and edgy design. I think the best part about these is this AWESOME color combo. I am happy to see that Oakley is releasing some of the older bright flashy colors. I think that this color combo will look good on any Canadian.
Frame: matte rootbeer
Lens: bronze polarised
Got these when in Dubai as had i misplaced my pair of half jacket and have to say a really smart comfortable pair of glasses these are my favourite pair I THINK always wear them when heading with wife as there not OTT and they have a clean smart look
Frame: Dark Grey
Lens: Fire Polarized
This frame is also available with Fire non-polarized although it is not listed here.
I like the frame very much and it fits good. The combination of Dark Grey with Fire looks more interesting than Silver / Fire. Also the black Unobtanium earstems and O-icon-elements create a nice contrast.
I prefer the Fire lense on a single lens frame where you see a bigger color sprectrum but it still looks good in the Straight Jacket.
The New Straight Jacket II is a very good follow-up to the classic version. Unlike the Eye Jacket 2.0 and 3.0, here Oakley was able to create something modern in the tradition of the old version! The Minute 2.0 is also a good example in my opinion. The Straight Jacket is still bigger than the Minute and the choice for boys.
Frame: Blood, White Chrome
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium, +Red Iridium
Lives up to the straight jacket name. The only complaint I have is that they don't come in the color ways of the originals. The blood frame is awesome and is similar to cinder red. White chrome is also very attractive but I am wary of FMJ frames as I do not want it to go the way of my original straight jackets.
