Frame/Lens: Black Chrome/Black Iridium; Matte Black/Amber Black Iridium Polarized

My first pair of these were the standard black iridium lens, which are quite a classy and dressy pair of sunglasses but other than that, pretty boring. Comfortable (when properly adjusted - otherwise the nose bridge can pinch!), lightweight but surprisingly solid feeling given the frameless construction. The mountings on these are different from the older WHY3 in that the screws through the lenses use a grommet which allows some flex at the joint before trying to bend the lens itself, making them less fragile. It may be the way I have the nose bridge adjusted on this pair but I find there's a lot of light leakage over the top of the lenses, they just seem to sit a bit low. Apart from that the lenses are very wide and very rectangular, and very wraparound with pretty good coverage. Wider or flatter faces may not suit these glasses because of the degree of wrap.

The second pair were the ABIP which seem to be about as common as the Holy Grail - it took me nearly 3 years to track down a pair which turned out to be near mint. These sit differently on the face for some reason and I don't get so much light leakage over the top. The ABIP lenses are odd to look at and bizarre to look through, but I prefer them over the BI in these glasses - they just add that touch of Oakley weirdness. They also work better in this frame than in my other pair of ABIPs which are Crosshair 1... not sure why but it may be due to the greater effective coverage on my particular face, less leakage of unfiltered external light means that the eye/brain doesn't interpret the visual field as so yellow relative to the unfiltered light but still gets the benefit of the contrast tweak.

It's a pity that there aren't any more 'interesting' lens options for these glasses - an Ice or Emerald Polarised or a VR50 or VR50 Emerald would suit the frame nicely I think, but short of a custom cut (but from which base lens??) that's not going to happen. The fit seems a bit variable and they're not the easiest glasses to adjust, but once adjusted they are great and very eye-catching in the right frame/lens combo. I tend to baby mine a bit given they're now effectively irreparable if damaged.

Summary - well made, not really effective in the brightest of sunlight, classy, crying out for polarization.

Having bought one pair of these glasses and been impressed so much I bought another pair the same a few days later from the same place. I then found something unexpected - the second pair had a different lens tint to the first. The first pair were a 2005 model, came in the black Oakley outer box and were most definitely 'black / black gradient', the second pair were from 2006 and came in the yellow Oakley box - these are definitely browner in colour and could probably be described as brown-clear gradient (the nearest tint I have to compare them to is probably Titanium). The difference is obvious enough to be able to tell which pair I'm looking at/through individually without comparing them side by side. The light transmission is the same for both pairs. I'd agree with the Cat 2 rating for these glasses and the other reviews that say these are a bit too 'light' for use in very bright sun, but other than that they're awesome - gorgeous to look at, well made and surprisingly sturdy. Very good for driving. But come on Oakley, resurrect this SKU, give us a darker, useable non-iridium black gradient - grey lens and a polarized option to boot.

Wow o wow, why 8,2s are by far my favourite WHY frame. so when i saw these customs with this amazing lens, i had to have them. Ive been desperate for a purpley contrast lens and this is it.
Now i have a pair of smart wires for overcast days aswell as the amber black polars for the serious sunny ones.
the black chrome frame just looks sooo good on a wire frame.

Simply put, the coolest pair of glasses I've ever seen and, thanks to e-bay, ever worn. They're lightweight and fit perfectly, no adjustment necessary.

I adore rimless frames, and to me this is the king of the hill. Sophisticated, with a hint of aggression (thanks to the mirrored black lenses), these will be my go-to pair for just about any occasion. Love 'em.

The only negative I can think of applies to all rimless frames: They're not for sports, period. They lack the integrity to stand up to abuse. I can hardly fault 'em for that, though, seeing as how that's not what they're designed for in the first place.

This is my second pair of Why 8.2's (the other being the polarized amber black iridium/matte black combo), and likely won't be my last. (I've been looking for an excuse to pick up a gradient lense anyway.)

By far one of the best pairs of Oakleys made. Lightweight, full-coverage, and incredibly classy.

I can't stress enough how much I love these. Looks great with a suit, as well as just casual clothes. Perfect.

I barely ever even feel them on my face while wearing them and since theyre rimless, I never see them either.
