Excellent lens. The iridium coating adds a nice lyer of reflectivity to the outside. Looking through them colors keep their natural look ad everything looks beautiful. The most versatile lens that Oakley makes for sunny days.

What can I say about the Black Iridium? It is the best lens there is for extremely bright light, save for maybe the Chrome Iridium (which I haven’t tried yet). I grew up in the American Southwest, have been stationed out there, as well as several trips to the Middle East. Lots of sun, sun, SUN! I have had no shortage of bright light beating down on me and the best lens to combat it has always been the Black Iridium.

Total comfort all day in the bright sun. Unless I am staring directly at the big Solaris in the sky (which doesn’t happen all that often anymore :P), my eyes are perfectly comfortable. They have the wearability for year round use and the versatility to go with nearly every other frame. Even the frames that it doesn’t quite compliment (like Emerald or Midnight) it still doesn’t detract from anything. Perfect for any activity, I use mine mainly for driving and running. Unless its early morning, late evening, or inclimate weather, they are the go-to lens for all conditions. Especially handy for long road trips, I have used them cross-country quite often and I love cross-country trips.

Of course, the Black Iridium is only for the brightest of conditions, so they begin to lose their luster as soon as the sun starts to go down or the clouds come out. But even then, it still has some staying power and can remain on the cranium – at least for a while.

The look is also very versatile. In bright light, the Iridium gives off a slight Chrome effect and in less than bright light has an even black sheen that always hides my eyes. Even though I am not one to favor looks over performance, I would say that if I did, I would say the Black Iridium does both quite well. Unfortunately, one can get tired of always seeing the black mirror after a while – I sure did and always wanted a Fire, or Ice or Ruby or Emerald. Even favoring other brands just to break up the monotony. But what do I always go back to? Yuuuup … Black Iridium.

I think that Black and Grey are probably the most underappreciated lenses because they are essentially “gimmies” with Oakley – you can usually expect any given frame to have Black or Grey and most of us here have tried them at one time or another. It is quite easy to write them off as a given. But since I have always found a reason to drive cross-country or travel around the globe I had a reason to look for the best lens possible. And I always end up turning to the Black Iridium.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to change things up every once in a while. But I think any true Oakley fanatic will have at least one of these in the array case, no matter what other lens you may favor; locked and loaded, ready to go when needed.

Came on my first oakley sunglasses, a Gascan Onesight. I was looking for a mirrored-effect lens, so it had to be an iridium one. These lens are really great for outdoor usage and sunny days. Not the greatest lens for days with no sun, but still a fair option. Too bad that black iridium is very likely to get your fingerprints when you touch the lens with your fingers.

Came with my Pewter Razrwire. A bit too dark for most situation. A definite no no for driving.

I found it very soothing during full sun, and especially at the beach. I prefer contrast lenses for most activities, especially driving and golfing. However, this is the only lens I use for outdoor photography sessions, as I need true colour definition when I look through the viewfinder.

Good Lens I have used black iridium for many years now. It's major disadvantage is it is not colour enhancing, and is recommended for very bright light only as the view on a dreary cloudy day is far too dark (Low contrast). Otherwise perfect for beach on fine days and fine days on the ice and snow slopes. Good for fine summer + spring days, definiately not a winter or fall lens.
