These are so out of my style, but I love them anyway. You gotta have the right day and outfit to wear them with though... I tend to go for going to the beach, but not to sunbathe, you know, you would end up with some whacked out tan lines from these, but more like, meh, I'm gonna go walk the boardwalk with my nice tan, or I'm gonna go drive around in my car with the windows down. Love 'em!

Love the design and sunglasses but it would always fog up and very loose doesnt fit an Asian face like mine. Had to sell it eventually.

The money was used to buy myself an x metal Juliet.

These glasses are BAD-ASS. Yeah they're a little lightweight but they are extremely noticeable and extremely good looking. These glasses offer great protection and offer a stylistic look that draws eyes from all around. I wouldn't wear them for work or play but if you just want to look good and have nice protection from the sun, these are the way to go.

Got this custom colorway at the O store shortly after release. These have to be the loudest, most sophisticated Oakley's I'll ever own. The one piece Ruby color lense is my favorite. there is a just a very small hint of orange depending at what angle you look at it and can also have a deep full ruby color. Again depending on the angle. Lens has a blue tint with a splash of grey. I think the grey smoke frame suits this model perfectly. Black looks to bulky. text models aren't my thing. Clear, uh NO. Matte, ehh. any exclusive color, nah. Make sure to not let the O store people mount the lenses!!! They have not learned to use a microclear cloth instead of bare hands to mount the lens. It is very, very difficult to get their damn fingerprints off.

Got this pair for Christmas 09 and they look sick! Originally had the polished black/warm grey model but I didn't like the lens so got this pair. The text is awesome and is subtle so doesn't look tacky. The Chrome O on the side really stands out and the iridium lens is awesome. First pair of oakleys and i love em.

These glasses are sick! The chrome goes together. The only flaw to the clear frame is on a really sunny day the sunlight reflects to the inside to your eyes to you see beams of sunlight. Overall I recommend these glasses.

Okay, I got these fresh pair of o's for Christmas 09 . Definetely best pair of glasses EVER!I have owned a pair of polished black gascans before and I was not impressed with those at all! They didn't stay on my face, they scratched up and the leg always broke. When I bought my rigs I was scared they would brake because of them being so big and flimsy. But they are very durable and the polished white will not scratch up actually. Great pair of glasses, you will not be dizzapointed. Five stars

Bought these about 7 months ago and fell in love with them on the spot. They had the original black iridium lens in them but they had to go since they had a couple lIght scratches on them. Bought a set of fire iridium lenses for them, walked out of the store put them on and atleast 3 people stopped me just walking to my truck 600 feet away to ask me were I had bought them. These new fire lenses scream look at me and are certainly a WOW factor to everyone looking at you. Thank you Oakley for making such a bad ass pair of glasses. Kudos

these are my 9th pair of Oakleys i have owned, but i first Square O's, at the time i thought the 135 price tag was a bit high but after having them for about a year now i know it was worth every penny.
of all my oakleys these get the most comments having the special edition Nicky Hayden pink O's on the side makes people do a double take.
i abosultly love them

Frame: Polished Black
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized
I ordered these custom, and they are hands down my favorite sunglasses. They look pretty sick, like something out of the Terminator. Mine have the darkest lens available; perfect for protecting my eyes on those bluebird days on the boat or on the golf course. The polarized lenses make it even better. It's like seeing in tinted HD.

Frame: Clear
Lens: Chrome

Long Term review:
These have been one of the biggest disappointments that I have experienced with the O line.

They look Very cool. I can't deny that. I love the way they look. The clear and chrome go very well together.

CLear frames on a sunny day, where'd you get the best "pop" factor for the chrome lenses, DO NOT WORK. The clear frames channel sunlight and they rocket around the frames causing massive amounts of glare and reflections on the inside of the lens. These reflection essentially blind you to certain things.

I found that I spend more time with these up on my head than wearing them. They spend a lot of time in the case. Good to look at, not so good to wear on a sunny day.

Frame: White Text
Lens: Ruby

As the gascan model has increased in popularity, many similar models have appeared. The Oil Drum, and now the Oil Rig have followed that path. With larger stems, the scupting has had more flexibility, and the large shield lens covers more than enough of your vision.

They do tend to be on the heavier side, but O Matter keeps the weight managable. For an everyday pair, these fit the bill very nicely.

Frame: White Text
Lens: Ruby Iridium

I was pretty disappointed when I visited the Oakley website the other day and saw that they had sold out just as I had gathered the funds to purchase the O-Zone exclusive Oil Rig; but the other day I stopped in at the Cherry Creek O Store and by chance they had one pair so I picked them up. As a huge fan of the generation one Oil Rigs I was really happy to have this pair as well as the clear/chrome pair in my collection. The ruby lens is truly a beautiful thing to look at and is my first pair with this lens. For actual use I have only wore them a few times for fear of something happening to them but looking through Ruby Iridium is very easy on the eye in a varying amount of light conditions, even very bright. The text on the frame is also very intriguing since Oakley uses a random generator to produce the varying patterns so every one is unique. They are a very flashy and unique pair of Square-O's that I'm very happy to have acquired.

Frame: Grey Smoke

It's weird, I didn't like the look of these for a while, but they really grew on me. Now that I own a pair I freakin love'em! They are comfortable, perfect fit, provide complete coverage, and look totally bad ass. I just can't wait to get more!

The one thing however, that for me is a must with a cyclops lens, is an iridium coating. I just don't dig grey one piece lenses where you can see the nose bridge of the frame through the lense. It ruins the effect for me. That being said, ruby on black here I come!

Frame: Grey Smoke
Lens: Black Iridium

I managed to try on some Oil Rigs that a friend of mine had and they fit like a glove. My head is kinda large and round so they appear to wrap perfectly to the contours of my head. Also, they are so light and it feels like your not even wearing them. The grey smoke frame combined with the black iridium makes them look pretty classy but they won't turn too many heads. The only drawback I feel with these is their seems to be a little bit of give in the lens together with frame and hence there is always a little crackling noise when opening up the arms to put the glasses on or when push down on the bottom and top of the frame. I think this is normal though as it happens with the eyepatch aswell. Other than that, there shades are sweet as...

Frame: Polished Clear
Lens: Chrome Iridium

These glasses might be my favorite pair in my collection. I spent a long time searching for them before another member hooked me up. I dont realyl wear them much becuase the chrome lens as mentioned by others isnt very dark in really bright light. I love the clear frame. It is really unique and looks great in the display case. hands down one of the coolest releases to come out in a while IMO
Ian -
Frame: Polished Clear
Lens: Chrome Iridium

I have been looking at Oil Rigs for a while now. I wanted something unique, so I was thinking custom, or T-Pain. The problem was, 1) I have no idea who T-Pain is (Maybe I've been living under a rock), and 2) I wasn't down with all the extra little "bits", like the fingers or bear. When I saw the Clear version, I decided that they were the ones and I started my hunt. I ended up calling all over the country to try and find a pair, and I ended up finding one for sale in the classifieds on this site, for half the price of what was average on ebay. They are beautiful. I wish I had two pairs, just so I wouldn't worry about wearing one of them. My only complaints are that the Chrome isn't dark enough to wear on a really sunny day, and that light shines through the frame. This is a "problem" on all translucent frames, though. Overall, great for style, mediocre for actual use.

Aside from my Frogs these have to be my favorite pair in my collection, The Chrome lens is just beautiful it reminds me of slate iridium but way cooler.

Frame: Shadow Camo
Lens: Titanium Iridium

Frame: Polished Clear
Lens: Chrome Iridium

I just picked up my 2nd pair of Oil Rigs today, the Clear/Chrome from Sunglass Icon. These things are insane. I wear my custom Shadow/Titanium pair very rarely because of how crazy they look. I know big lenses are in but taking the Oil Drums and fitting a shield lens really takes them to the next level. The combination of industrial angles and the curve of the lens works well. It's a good thing I have a melon head because smaller faces need not apply.

The Clear/Chrome combo is really ridiculous but such a cool collectors item. Chrome Iridium has to be the most mirrored lens ever. Whoever thought clear frames was a good idea on sunglasses needs to get their head examined, but the cool factor alone makes up for it.

My only complaint is that the Titanium Iridium lens has a really soft outer surface. I'm obsessive about keeping my lenses clean and scratch free but after wearing them just a handful of times, they already have some noticeable scuffs on them.

Frame: Polished Black
Lens: Ruby Iridium
I just bought the new holiday signature Oil Rigs and they are possibly the coolest shades I have ever had! The glasses cover 99% of my visual field, and the frames are really comfortable and well designed. One nice thing about the frames is that they lenses are not slanted downward like they are in the Oil Drums. If you own Oil Drums you probably know what I'm talking about. The Ruby Iridium lenses I can't say enough about. They have to be the coolest looking lenses by Oakley. If your in the market for a new pair of sunglasses check these out while you still can.

sunglass hut exclusive sunglasses, and decision is in the air whether to make it a regular oakley pair available everywhere, or to stop production of it completely in january '09. sick pair, it is beautiful, i own 2 pairs myself, along with the t-pain rigs, and brown smoke rigs. im just in OoO and ahh over the design shape and comfort. Im waiting to see if there will be a ducati release of the rigs, but not sure because they have released it as a nicky hayden edition already, last time nicky hayden had a pair of signature glasses, it was the eyepatch, which never made it to the ducati line since he is a ducati rider already.

Frame: Polished White
Lens: Black Iridium (T-Pain)

Over all very good sun protection, a little bit small on my face but im a big dude so it shouldn't matter to the average size person. I love the ear stems, just like my oil Oil Drums that got stolen but i love what Oakley has done with the "Rigs" having the toric lense look, very pretty, very eye catching. My wife doesn't know i have these yet, she'd be either pissed or jelous hehe. 4-5 bones IMHO.

T-Pain vs Nicky Hayden -
Frame: T-Pain (polisded white)
Lens: Black Iridium

One day I was looking at the O zone to see if they got any frog skins in. But what i do find is a very nice pair of the T-Pain signiture series. I love them as much as my Nicky Haydens. The designs on them are very cool including the fingure symbol, the teddy bear and his signiture on the left arm inside. The only thing
I dont like about these glasses is that everyone wants them. Still they are sick glasses and rival Nicky Haydens.
T-Pain Vs Nicky Hayden -
Frame: Nicky Hayden (polished black)
Lens: Black Iridium

A few weeks ago I sold my old boring gascans and I got these sick Nicky Hayden oil rigs. They wrap nicely around my face and the full lense is a very nice addition. The pink O in the center is one of my favourite parts. A few more details is the signiture at the bottem of the lense and a number 69 on the inner side left arm. If you ask me it seems like everyone wants the T-Pains. But if you want something not as flashy but still brings tons of attention get these

Frame: Shadow Camo
Lens: Grey Polarized

A bit expensive but well worth the money. Full coverage meaning maximum view with no light leakages at all on my face. Lightweight. Shadow Camo is cool too, a bit unique. And the Grey Polarized is superb, only I still wished its hydrophobic and perhaps in Black Iridium.

Anyhow, whats this I read about Oil Rig Gen 2? Show it already.
And also, I think its high time that a Limited Edition Artist Series came out for the Oil Rig, the frame is certainly big enough to place any artwork on it.
Strider -
Frame: Grey Smoke
Lens: Ruby Iridium

Wow! Oil Rig are becoming my favorites. Got this combo at the
O store because I didn't want another black Iridium. Needed something a little different. These scream "look at me" when you wear them. Very light and sturdy. Almost have to fight to get them to open. Fit is perfect nice wrap around here. Very little to no sun gets in. My face looks like a machine when I see them say in a mirror. The one piece lense really sets it apart. they are alot smaller in size then I thought. Online they look giant. Its good size, good size. The Ruby lense is beautiful. There is a touch of orange just depends what angle your looking at them. seems to be the farther side of the lense turns orange again depending on what angle. There is a blue/Grey tint when you look through them. A little brighter than Black Iridium. Overall Solid piece of equipmnet.

Frame: Polished Clear
Lens: Chrome Iridium

Wow. Where do I begin...well, the frames are crystal clear opposed to a milky clear or anything like that. The icons and the lenses are literally like mirrors. I can hardly think or anything to say other than these are a MUST for an true Oakley fan.

The price point is perfect too, not too high or anything. I hope they keep these exclusive.

Frame: Clear
Lens: Chrome Iridium

These are SICK!! They are a Sunglass Icon exclusive and only available at their stores. (Sunglass Designs, Sunglass Icon, Sunglass Club, Occhiali Da Sole, and Sporting Eyes.) It is a completly see through frame called Polished Clear. They have a silver "O" and the new chrome lens, also available on new Straight Jacket and Inmate. The Chrome lens is the newest premium lens from Oakley. It is basically the Titanium of the grey based lenses with its many coatings of iridium.

Frame: Polished Black/Gun Metal "O"
Lens: Warm Grey

Fell in love with these about two weeks after I got my Gascans. Though I will always love the gascan especially mine in white, I needed something a little less flashy, but I still wanted to stand out. These are classy glasses, your not going to see too many other people wearing oil rigs, compared to seeing gascans everywhere. Extremely comfortable and great sun protection as they wrap right on your face almost goggle like. I would advise against getting black iridium, the pair i tried on in the store looked like ski goggles with black iridium because you cant see the middle divider behind the shield style lens. overall excellent frame. hard to decide what to wear each day, gascan or oil rig. i think im going to get hijinx next.

Frame: Clear
Lens: Black mirror

Today I was at one of the mall kiosks which I have come to understand is owned by oakley and they had a limited edition pair of the Oil Rig. The frame is completley see through with a silver O on each side. The lenses are a mirror like black and you can see your face perfectly in them when you look straight on. I looked for a pic all over the internet and couldnt find one so I'm assuming these are fairly rare. The store said they only recieved two pair. I like them a lot, they're the ultimate stunner shades lol. After owning several pairs of the sport performance models like the half and flak jackets no unobtanium is a wierd feeling but they are comfortable none the less. The only downside is the clear frames let in a little unwanted sunlight. The cool factor is off the charts though, hopefully someone adds a pic soon.

Frame: black with silver text
Lens: black iridium

I love these glasses. They are very comfortable even without any unob pieces. The glasses fit me very well and i think that they would fit a lot of differant face shapes and sizes nicely.

I also have the white with text which is also nice, but i like this colorway a lot more. They are a lot more subtle. The text pattern looks awesome up close or under the lights in a display case, but when being worn it is not as noticable as the white pair.

if you havent yet tried on a pair of oil rigs you should. they are quickly becoming one of my favorite new styles.

Excellent style on an excellent frame. Enough flash to make it unique yet subtle enough to keep it classy.

shades on, them oakleys to be exact -
Frame: black w/ text
Lens: black iridium

These shades are sick. I love everything about them, the frame is almost aviator style a little bit the way its one lens. the sides are sick as well. i like em cuz there goody but attractive. the text is the real kicker (although kinda hard to see from a distance) but they are comfortable, block out the sun and the lens are crystal clear. worth the 120$ i spent on them, i love them. then add to the fact t pain wears this model ices it.
Mike -
Frame: Polished White (T-Pain)
Lens: Black Iridium

Definitely becoming one of my fav Oakley models. Looks Futuristic. Clean. Sharp. Smooth. & way Cool. Wraparound is awesome as always, no light leakages. From far, the lower part of the arms thats coloured black sure fooled a lot of people with the design. So sometimes people might think its a different model altogether.

Have to re clarify, the nose bridge only 'looks' like its hanging on my nose because it doesn't touch the center of my nose. But actually the sides of the nose bridge touches the sides of my nose perfectly and hold it in place. Not loose while wearing it nor does it touch my cheeks.

Would've given it a 5 but this time I think I miss Hydrophobic too much. Oakley should make all future models with Hydrophobic IMHO, makes a world of difference.

Oil Rig I think epitomizes Oakley's root of 'Mad Science'.

I didn't believe I spent 200+ bucks on a pair of sunglasses but after i got them in the mail I realized it was well worth it. Complete sun coverage, sick style, crazy comfortable, and its from Oakley. What more do you want? Oil Rig=sickest pair of glasses

Frame:Brown Smoke
Lens: Tungsten Iridium

This is the first pair of Oakleys I have bought in a while. I like the new lens tint and the frame design fits my face fairly well. My only complaint is they seem to be a bit tight right in front of the ear, but they will probably loosen up with use.
Josh_b -
Frame: Brown Smoke
Lens: Tungsten Iridium
I have also had the Oil drums and i never thought i would actually like a cyclops lens, but i guess i just find them comfortable because the wrap right around and cover your eyes completely so no sun can get in. If you are like me and cannot wear a really dark lens because it puts to much stress on your eye i reckon this is the way to go as well. I cannot wait to see what the artist series oil rig will look like :-).

Frame: Grey Smoke

Love how these hug my face - similar to my monster dogs but not as tight; I also have Gascans and those tend to slip while these oil rigs do not. Stylish, high-tech and modern looking pair of oakleys. Clean and timeless!! love em

I just picked these up tonight. So far I am really liking the look and overall design. They are not as big as I thought they would be but the fit is tight and the text version is very cool looking. I would say you cannot go wrong with these at $115. Great style, great design and very light - not bulky at all.

Frame: Black

I tried these on. These are very comfortable and completely seal out light. They are not too big. The have the look on my face of the Riddle sunglasses but felt to me less bulky. The look is not that of straight lenses across my face but lenses that curve a bit upwards.I don't particulary like this look on me but the comfort and sun protection is so good it should not matter. These are excellent sunglasses.

These things are huge. The lens coverage is amazing, despite a few blind spots at the edges. The text frame is a great, unique look. While it slightly obnoxious, it's working for me, and I'm very happy with the purchase.

Frame: Polished Black/White Text
Lens: G40 Gradient/Grey

I tried both pairs on at a new O-store near the harbour. Hmm, what can I say...Let me first say that I totally dig the Oil Drum - I got the ABIP/Pol Blk model. If you're expecting an improvement from the Oil Drum lineage, be prepared to be a little disappointed. It's like the Oil Drum's earstems were cut and pasted onto the Riddle's lens. It looks like a bit of a mismatch. Like the review below says, the nose bridge is totally out-it sticks out and is only suitable for those with tall nose bridges (not me). Unlike the Oil Drum, which hugs my face very well and leaves little gaps, trying on the Oil Rig reminded me of trying on the Riddle (normal fit), where the bridge stuck out ridiculously far from my nose and it was just floating in mid-air. I wouldn't be caught dead in something like that.

Because of the one-piece frame design, the lens portion feels a little flimsy and bendable, sort of like a Dartboard, but definitely not as bad. The only resemblence to the Oil Drums are the industrial-looking ear stems. Maybe I set my expectations too high, with the Oil Drum possibly being close to my all-time favorite pair. So while the Oil Rig does looks good on paper, and it pictures, in reality, it doesn't do much for me. 2 skulls.
Mike -
Frame: Brown Smoke
Lens: Tungsten

Last year I tried out the Riddle in the shops, the 'Cylops' style of lens is great, but the temples too tight and a bit feminime. I thought exactly at the time I wished they took the Oil Drum temples and replace it on the riddle.

This year, my wishes came true, as cheesy as it sounds. The design is spot-on this time. The temples fit superb. However its just the nose bridge that doesnt suit my asian face that much, so it kinda 'hangs' on my face.

Brown Smoke is alright, its the Tungsten Iridium lens i went for. Its just pleasing to the eyes and quite calm looking through.
4.5 because of the nose bridge issue.

sorry the other earlier review I got the lens wrong.

I believe this pair is underrated a lot of people don’t have faith in shields like this but I have to say I like the way they fit me could be because of the big head or could be because T-Pain has a pair as well but what ever it may be I would recommend this pair I love the look its something new for Oakley. This pair may be a big hit w/ the young people and w/ the hip-hop culture.

Truly a masterpiece of the new Summer 2008 Collection!
It feels much stronger and stiffer than any other O-matter piece I own. The wrap around is great, it is extremely comfortable, the Oil Drum style of the arms looks great and the black icon matches the Grey lens perfectly.
And just for kicks is the frame option with the Text print. It looks awesome!

Frame: Clear
Lens: Chrome Iridium

One of the nicer pair of Square O's that I own. The Oil Rig brings to mind the good Ol' Razor Blade of yesteryear. The Clear/Chrome version is only available at Sunglass Icon. Extremely cool in terms of "Startle" factor. The clear frames make the lens appear to hang suspended from your face. These fit medium/large faces with lower cheekbones. Most Asians with higher cheekbones (like my wife) would feel these less comfortable. Replacement lenses are NOT avaialbe so you can't swap them in and out. According to the Oakley CSR I spoke with on the phone, I woudl have to send in the frames. They will not sell lenses seperately even though other colors are available through OCP. They fit well and are light. The only complaint I have (hence the 4 skulls) is the curvature, depending on the light, reflects back on the inside. I can see my own reflection on the inside of the lens while wearing them. Again, this may have to do with my face shape and where my eyes are in relation to the light and the reflected image. ALl in all, great glasses.
