I custom ordered the G20 on Radar frames for cycling-specific usage - both on and off road. Despite the claimed 15% light transmission, the rose base tint offers a warm, contrasty filter that effectively blocks sunlight without muting the contours of the ground. However, in shady and mixed light conditions (e.g. zipping in and out of wooded trails) the lens is a bit dark - but as can be expected from something at the darker end of Oakley's lens offerings. Overall a fantastic lens with comfortable eye-feel and crisp optical clarity, especially when used for cycling.
I just received these for my Polished White Flak Jackets. A fantastic lens for a fantastic frame!
Looking at the lens from outside, the lens at first appears like plain black iridium and nothing special. However, a closer glimpse reveals that the iridium coating is applied to a purple-rose base coat. Black iridium actually looks interesting when its NOT on gray.
Looking through the lens is quite refreshing. I wore these all week (I really really like the Flak Jacket), and the light conditions were gloomy to semi-bright overcast to bright sunny days. As soon as you put them on, the view on a gloomy day becomes 'enhanced'. These are definitely made for golfing, as the color green is made more visible than any other color. A white sky suddenly becomes the color rose colored, which indicates they might be good for hot skiing days where you don't need goggles. All other colors simply become more vivid, which makes them good for driving as well. I caught myself wearing these indoors since my eyes felt comfortable and they weren't too dark. That said, they still block very bright light. Since its a FJ lens, the hydrophobic coating is there too and works great.
Overall, this is a highly functional lens. I imagine that the plain G20, which is also available for FJ and other glasses, has the same view, but without the glare reduction of black iridium. For some reason the preview for this lens isn't available on o.com, but the preview for G30 will give you a good indicator of what it looks like. Otherwise, you'll need to find an O store in hopes of previewing the lens before you buy.
Just got these with my custom set of Flak Jacket's. I actually had these as my extra array lenses, and was pleasantly surprised. I walked out with the Gold Iridium, and ended up swapping them out for these. They are great for bike rides, but the lack of Polarization limits their use in my opinion. Most of my lenses are polarized, so this is a little setback for me. The VR28 Black Iridium would be the closest comparison to these, but I think these are more rosey in color than the VR28's. Still, great lens but I still feel like the VR28's are superior.
Btw, the mirror coating is excellent for those who are wondering.
Great lenses for golf too. I have a pair of RADARs set up with G20 Black as well as FLAK JACKET XLJs. These lenses do a great job of upping the contrast on the course while not making everything to dark.
I didn't like these so much. I had them on some Radars that I use for cycling and everyday use. The biggest issue is they are not polarized, glare and flickering are major issues. They have an interesting rose tint that brightens your view but when you take them off, your eyes take awhile to adjust back to normal conditions. Not everyone's cup of tea I'd assume, do try them on before buying. I returned my set for polarized versions (black iridium to be exact).
I bought a pair of these for my New Grey Flak Jackets. One of the best lenses Oakley has ever come up with. Not dark enough for brilliant sun but excellent for other applications.
I would not buy these without trying them on.
