nice call there steve...DSR added another car to their camp and there are pix or renderings of the paint scheme, but I saw no marking from Oakley on it...I was surprised since virtually every NHRA car has an O on it somewhere and DSR is the home for Scelzi...I liked Scelzi's comments about Jannard's paint schemes and ideas how people bitch about them until they see the finished product and then love them...

I'll try to get some pics at GatorNationals, but I'm sure we'll have something before then.

There was a rumor floating around before about Oakley getting out of drag racing. Was that completely unfounded or what? Great looking new car as always

I would think that to be BS rumor at best. That, next to the Setters is Jim's niche. I have seen him there at Pomona several times, and with the comments from Scelzi in the page about the new paint schemes, sounds like he is in it for the long haul...Besides, you see the "O" on almost every car out there...

He can and will do it. It is discussed in the story where those body shots were taken from...They are champs, and will regain the title again, but now have another "Force" to contend with...On the flip side, she is an Oakley sponsored driver!!

Hey Josh, what all events do you travel to? We have Top Eliminator seats at the US Nationals in Indy every year, let me know if you plan to hit that event up. It is an awesome venue if you have not been able to visit it. I also recieved the Riddles yesterday, I will pm you in a little while and get this stuff out to you tomorrow.

The 2007 season starts on Thursday. Any predictions? I think there is going to be alot of tough teams this year. My choice, is of course, G. Scelzi in Funny Car. Top Fuel, T. Schumacher, Pro Stock, J. Connelly, and Pro Stock Bike, A. Brown

I predict it will be Robert Height to win T/F Funny Car for the season..Too close last year. Ashley will do well, and Scelzi will be 3rd? Force will be a solid 2nd to his sophmore driver I think...Berstein can be the missing link in all this though....He has a history of kicking ass...

Looks like Gary is starting the season in the right direction...I missed out today, and won't make it tomorrow DAMN!!! Here is a quote borrowed from NHRA.com
Scelzi's Round 4 run of 4.692 at 333.49 mph in his Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T put him on top of the quickest field of 16 Funny Cars ever assembled for a drag race.

"To have a racecar that goes down the racetrack four times with the slowest of those passes being a 4.75 feels so good I can't even describe it," Scelzi said. "I don't want to jinx myself, but usually when you go through qualifying like that you tend to have good Sundays. The exciting thing is we're really not even going for low E.T., we're just trying to get down the track each run.

"What an exciting round. They had to come and get me and tell me to get in the car because I was so caught up in the drama of what was going on with John and Ashley Force I didn't want to miss anything. This is NHRA POWERade drag racing at it's finest and this is only the first race of the year."

ERIC MEDLEN HOSPITALIZED
AFTER TESTING ACCIDENT AT GAINESVILLE RACEWAY

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Eric Medlen, 33, one of the bright young stars of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, was injured Monday when his Funny Car crashed during a testing accident at Gainesville Raceway.

Medlen suffered undetermined injuries when the 8,000 horsepower hybrid he was driving crashed heavily into the rightside guardwall. He was transported via ShandsCair helicopter to Shands at the University of Florida medical center.

The six-time NHRA tour winner, who participated in Sunday’s 38th annual ACDelco Gatornationals, was being treated in the surgical intensive care unit at Shands. He was listed in critical condition while being further evaluated by medical personnel.

Medical staff will provide a condition update at midday on Tuesday according to John Force Racing sources who emphasized that, at the present time, Medlen is not permitted to have visitors, phone calls, cards or flowers.

“Eric’s extended family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers,” said Kelly Antonelli, spokesperson for JFR. “At the same time, we would ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time and allow the medical staff to do its work.”

A former crewman on boss and teammate John Force’s championship-winning Funny Cars, Medlen began his own driving career in 2004, winning a race his first year. He won three more times in 2005 and two times last season in a Funny Car prepared by his father, John Medlen.
Please pray for his recovery and safety. Eric Medlen is a very friendly guy that is a class act in all ways. The first time I took my son to Pomona, CA. to an NHRA event, he actually took him behind the ropes at his pit (his rookie season), showed him the car and pit, and Held him up for a photo op. His professionalism and kindness has stuck with my son, and he looks forward to attending every event to see him again. My thought are out with him and his family. Get well Eric...
