ok, went to get the engraving done today. The technician does not think it will be a problem. His exact words were 'it's a piece of piss'. I've left my G30 to get my sig put on them and they'll be back on Wednesday next week. I've got two spare pairs of mint Juleit lenses for sale, one Black Iridium and one pair of Ice Iridium for sale plus engraving if anyone wants their signature or whatever (within reason) on them. I'll offer them in the for sale section.

I've had quite a few emails about this and I've had a discussion with my contact and this is what he's decided.

First of all the price is £25 for lettering only. £30 for signatures or logos (the increased price is due to the complexity and programming the computer for the more complex design). These prices are for up to five lenses. More than five with the same design and the price goes down by £5 per lense. These prices also are supposed to include 17.5% VAT but since I've told him that they are for export, he dubiously agreed to waive the VAT.

Shipping by ordinary airmail is £2-£3 (plus £3.30 if you want priority insured shipping). I would also stress that I am not making anything on these but just to doing it as a favour to O-Review members. My contact is in the electronics business and the machine is used in the course of his business, He is not a lense engraver and in fact, it is a hassle for him to do it since he has his own business to get on with. Payments made via Paypal will need Paypal charges paid as I don't want to end up taking a loss.

Also, any lenses shipped to me for engraving are done so entirely at your own risk. If it screws up, I and my contact do not want to be held responsible. You'll get your money back but the loss of the lense is something you have to deal with. If you cannot afford to lose the lenses, don't send it in for engraving. Sorry to sound harsh about this but I don't want to be blamed for something that's not my fault. My signature G30 will be back next week and I'll post pics then. After that, it's your decision.

Thanks guys!

Houdini,
Is there a limit on the wording or amount of letters?

No limit to letters but I recommend Impact font in outline and no more than 9 characters as it will get cluttered. If you look at a polarized J lense, you get the idea. More letters means making the letters smaller or more compressed laterally.

Signatures can be scaled down to fit so no probs there.

Logos fall into the same category as signatures but symbols such as * $ @ etc, etc can be done if they are part of a font.

Not yet. The technician is still working on it. They are trying to work out the optimal speed for the engraving before potentially ruining my lense. Too slow and the lense will melt, too fast and you'll end up with a dot matrix effect. They will have it finished mid week next week.
