Hey Bong,

You may already be aware of this but I was looking at the Hatchets on the O.com site and they have an Asian Fit option...was wondering if you had seen/tried them yet and if they truly make a difference.... saw it and thought "Wow - that's pretty cool!"

yeah, thanks Nik. i've not seen any asian fit frames in person, but i have high hopes for the asian fit Half Jackets. i think even if the Hatchets came with an asian fit version, the base curve is still too much for my wide head. maybe the asian fit version uses a different base curve?

anyway, does anyone know if Half Jackets accept RX lenses?

HJs will take Rx lenses between +1 and (I think) -5.

does anyone know the official word on the Asian Fit Half Jackets? i've asked my Optical Store (OPD) and they said their Oakley Representative informed them that it's only available internationally (which i don't believe). i've called Oakley and they said it's not available yet but will be soon. i've asked several sales reps what the difference was between the regular fit and Asian fit, one said that the frame itself is not the same (different mold, something about a different shaped bridge on the frames), another said it might be different nosebombs... i dunno who to believe.

can anyone help?

Wow, I just noticed the option for Asian fit sunglasses today on the Oakley site. This is great! I'm gonna pick me up a pair of asian fit Splices and I'll tell you how they work out. I had to sell a previous pair of Splices I had because they didn't fit right, but I LOVED them. I'd like to try out a pair of Hatchets, but I'm thinking even if they fit my nose correctly, they'd still be too big on my face. I'll tell you what's different about the splices when I get them Bong, should help with your decision on the Half jackets.

yeah Neptune, that'll be cool if you can post some info on the Asian Fit Splices if you get them.

i ordered a pair of Asian Fit Half Jackets last week, and i was so hoping they would show up today before the long weekend, but to no avail. :(

i'll let you know about those whenever they come in.

Just signed up on this site since I'm looking for a pair of sunglasses that will fit my big ol' head...

I actually found a Japanese site that shows some comparison pics of the Unknowns with Asian Fit frame. http://oakley.exblog.jp/ Scroll down to see the photos... looks like the frame is modified around the bridge and nose.

Ah, so the Unknowns have a different base curve too.

And welcome to the site.

Welcome to the O-review Mr. Shen! Great find on those pictures! They really help to see the fit differences. I will never cease to marvel at Oakley's mastery of design! They really sweat the details.

Thanks for the welcome. Anyone have any suggestions for large fit Oakley styles for me to try? I wear a size 8 cap (23.5 in or 60 cm), and it's tough finding glasses that fit me. Although I'm Asian, I don't think the Asian fit is gonna be much help... I guess the Monster Doggle is my best bet??

I'm bored at work so I ran the Japanese text on that blog through translation... From what I gather, the Asian Fit frame is designed to:

-allow it remain higher on the typical Asian nose
-keep the bottom of the lens from sitting against the cheek

Make sense from the photos... the frame does look less curved across the bridge.

exactly these two problems for me from buying anything else but Wire frames. hopefully the Asian Fit HJ's will solve these problems.

you might want to try the Big Square Wires, see if the style suits you... oh, and welcome to the O-Review!

Hey Mr. Shen - have you tried the Monster Dog? I have a big noggin and they are the best fitting pair I've put on.

(hey look at that - 1000 posts)

hey EC, happy 1000th post. :P

my Asian Fit Half Jackets came in today. from what i gather, i'm almost positive they are exactly the same as regular Half Jackets; the only difference is larger nosebombs. another reason to believe they are the same is because they came with the smaller (regular) set of nosebombs. so mystery solved, at least for the Half Jackets.

Thanks for the suggestions. Just to update, I took a chance and ordered the polarized Monster Doggles off of oakley.com. The huge O on the temples is cool, but the Oakley across the bridge of the Monster Dog is a bit too much for me.

After reading Martin's detailed review of the Monster Dogs that fit his 57cm head (me=60cm), hopefully the Doggles will work... otherwise I'll have to make a trip to the mall and try out Big Square Wires that Bong suggested.

Where do you get the head measurements? At the tmples? At the ears? I think I have a fairly large head & the Crosshairs & Gascans fit me great. Have you considered those? Also, there's gotta be a Why frame to fit every face.

My Monster Doggles arrived... They do fit, but they are tight against my skull above my ears. Photo below... I'll wear over the next week or so to see if I find them too uncomfortable to wear...and I'll probably have to take a trip to the nearest SGH to see if any other models that you guys recommended are a little better.

Head measurements are supposed to be done around your head just above your eyebrows. As a size 8 cap wearing guy, none of the one-size-fits-all caps fit on me unless the velcro strap is clinging on the last millimeter or only the last plastic snap is used. Pretty ridiculous... I almost couldn't play any intramural beginner hockey in college because I couldn't bear the pain of an XL helmet pressing my head like a pimple being squeezed.

It's really hard for me to find glasses that fit unless I totally bend out the arms of some wire frames... that's what I have done with the Ray-Bans I've used for the past few years. It's a thinner wire frame where instead of the arms forming a 90 degree angle, I gradually bent them to more like 120 deg.

Try gas cans, especially the very first few pair. They are a good size and are extremely wide. You would have your best bet w/ Black grey, and Rootbeer. The new tool they are using makes them fit a little tighter. Good luck.
