I'm really liking my Blue Iridium lenses. But, I've noticed that there are different bases used that aren't referenced in the lens database.

I have some M Frames and Radars that have VR28 bases. But I've recently gotten two Frogskins that have a grey base. Is there any difference in the light transmission?

The Blue Iridium with the grey base is actually OO Blue Iridium I believe. Same Blue that was used in the Polished Juliets. Pretty sure someone can confirm this.

Well that was fast. Sure enough the data base is complete. It is my own database that is lacking! Doh!

Thanks again!

The blue iridium in the frogskins actually was released before OO lenses. Also no OO lenses have ever been released with a grey based lens, it defeats the whole idea of improving contrast.
I am not sure why this was done but it apears the is a sport specific blue iridium and a non sport specific blue iridium. My personal opinion is the person getting their lens for sports is getting it for the contrast, a person getting these in a pair of frogskins wants neutral lens that is darker.

Think Jamey's talking about the old OO Blue - not the new OO Polarized lenses...

Great question I've been wondering myself
In the White Chrome/Blue Ir RADAR, the lens looks like HI Persimmon
In the Frogz w/ Blue Ir it looks like Ice or Ichiro Blue...

You got it Freesh, from the old OO wire series, not the new OO Polarized. I find it a little strange that your Radar would have the old style Blue and your Frogskins woudl have the newer OO grey based ones. Maybe sport vs non sport? I don't have a perfect answer since Oakley never has really differentiated between the two over the years. They just say Blue Iridium and that's it. Guess that's where we come in.

It's the question that continues to baffle me. Just with Juliets, there was the Polished / Blue Iridium, and then the Ichiro OO Blue. But not the same as the OO Wires OO Blue, and both juliets were different, so who knows. There's also the vintage Blue, which has the fire base, and some on the mid-90's releases as well.

I'd ask Rick to post a comparison, but the caste system prevents me from contacting him directly.

Yeah, it's a weird one. The Juliet Blue Ir has the teal color in it & grey base, while the Ichiro OO Blue seems to be more blue & purple. The old Blue has the VR28 base right?

I thought the current Blue was very similar to the vintage Blue? Or am I off a bit on that?

The "sports vs lifestyle" base theory could make sense
BUT
How about this one: I got a Radar XL, Matte White/Blue Iridium - and the lens is like OO Blue Ir/Ichiro Blue...and it has a grey base :s

The Blue Ir goggle lenses have the persimmon base...

??

Goggle lenses as a whole are hard to compare... Black iridium is totally different

I know - Persimmon base as well

Was just throwing it in there for the Blue Ir debate's sake

Well, throw that theory out the window then lol.

I think the only current blue that was like the old, was the New RazorBlade, but that was a throwback anyhow.
