My current approach: Buy less but be willing to pay more. Basically wait for the crazy cool stuff to show up and be a stupid crazy bidder on them.

With the proliferation of fakes across the board on every item imaginable, I have an increased desire to buy NIB regular released items since they are much more difficult to replicate. Anyone else feeling the same way?

When people look at things in my collection and think I've gone above and beyond to acquire them, they don't realized that most was just simply picked up as 'normal' purchases. It's always a pain to dig back into out of stock releases, so if something seems marginally interesting, I either jump on it, or see if a sale pops along for an opportunistic purchase. Plus like you mentioned, you get all the box and misc items that it may come with. I hardly have any boxes for my Zeros or M Frames, and less if I hope they match. Even the most basic pair will stand out in 10 years if you have the little things like the extra nose pieces, or matching microbag.

Like Dann says, "normal purchases" is definitely the way to go. I just wish I had begun normal purchases back in 1995 rather then 2010. Oh well, only two more "out of stock items" to cross off my list, and then it will only be the simple normal purchases.

In 2005, I decided to collect one of every pair, and then just keep up. Well I've made some progress, but it has been 11 years since then, so even the recent ones at that time are deemed vintage by some. I have a lot of the annoying ones crossed off though.

I signed up with O-review recently. Had been with OF since 2014. But been an Oakley enthusiast/collector since 2004-2005. Luckily for me, nothing in today's releases interests me and have kinda gotten to the point where I can stare at my cases and feel content. My acquisitions have been centered around the R1s, XXs, XSs and the Elite C6. I have been fortunate to be able to purchase duplicates of all these in the form of BNIBs. I have an annual goal to customize a XS based on a specific theme (this year was the copper XS). The one off will always intrigue me and the trip to 1 Icon this year kind of summed up my journey as being a patient and enthralling one.
One regret though...why did I not sign up with O-review sooner.

I don't think anyone will hold it against you, glad you decided to sign-up. I signed up at the end of 2014 and wish I had sooner...

I have only purchased one eyewear outside of a retail store (O Store, Vault, or SGH), and that was my Old Glorys that came directly from the UK. Thankfully they were the real deal. The amount of fakes out there, and the mark-up has always turned me off. I would rather support my local Home Bunker, or stores I visit in my travel, and pick-up NIB regular releases. I have picked up random Oakley Golf items (Skull Collection) from overseas on eBay, but they have always been legit.

I have used everything that I've ever bought, so my focus has always been for items that I actually love and want to use. I don't buy anything that just gets shoved away somewhere. Because of that, my collection is small compared to most, particularly since I got my first pair of original M-Frames in the early 90's but each pair has a significance and gets use (with the exception of my Jordan Romeo, which I wore for a few years back in the day but are too precious to risk now).

I'd say that about 1 pair out of 20 releases interest me these days, so I am looking more at older things or unique items. The manager of the local store is always hooking me up with special items that get "set aside" in the back room until I can make it into the store. :)

I use everything I buy also, but if I'm buying something recent, I'd rather get it new, so I don't mind buying from the Internet (there is almost nothing local here). I wouldn't mind another X-Metal and watch, but both are expensive propositions, so they will be used.

Buying what I wear / wearing what I buy has saved me from a lot of potential pitfalls. Even though I have strayed from my goals at times, staying focused only on what I will put on my face has at least kept me from going too far in odd directions. I still very much enjoy the small collection I have because of it, and not have looked at a particular piece and thought of what could have been instead.

I will admit that becoming interested in Oakley collecting as late as I had definitely influences my collecting goals. I'm sure we can all agree that being out and aware during the retail run of a paricular model plays heavily into whether to grab one, as opposed to acquiring the same after the fact when its harder, more expensive and condition is questionable. That being said, getting something that works for you personally is a great feeling; getting it for a good price sweetens the achievement. I feel fortunate that I was able to find the frames that I did for the prices that I paid because not only do they work very well for me but, looking back I don't think I would have been able to pull it off had I done it any earlier.

I am so content with what I have collected that I am just sort of sitting back and enjoying it right now. It's hard for me to really put a direction on where I will go because I don't have any real want at the moment. That's not to say I am not keeping up with new releases, just that I have reached a plateau and having some fun with what I have. I'm certainly not done at all; just have to see where it goes from here. I am sure something will come along that moves me.

That's my exact goal too. I actually started a plan in 2005 to get every model, and then keep up. That goal shifted to everything up until 2005 since I haven't had muc interest in getting the hundreds of female specific variants. I'm down to just the 90's wires, Mag M Frame, and like you said the several variants of glasses like the Zero 0.4.

Hmmmm he is allowed , not jealous at all ha !!!!! Mine have to fit in one ladies tower plus a counter top one (when I polish it !!!) prob for the X Metals and up to M Frames. Poor things have to live in 2 rows one behind the other (close up) before anyone asks I have custom fitted 5 extra shelves in the tower will get some pics up when I finish. The main thing is they are nearly all there . Just snapped up a pair of once worn Juliets for 66 dollars on E Bay , the collecting God was with me today.

I get a headache thinking about how I'm gonna have to move all of this stuff when I move next.

I made the above comment in 2012. My wife wants a new house in the next year or so. My nightmares are about to begin.
