1) Will we wind up seeing all sorts of athletes and race crews sporting these while the general public can't get them like the Pit Boss? I mean really, this is stoooooooooooooopid on their part if so. I can't get a color in the boss because they gave away a sh!t load of Bosses to wrench turners and sideline people in racing and pro sports...WTF! I can understand Lance Armstrong maybe, but 4k each and they don't need any advertisement like that. Should prove to be interesting.
I would not be surprised. That's always been their MO. I really can't see a $4k pair of sunglasses selling all that well, especially if they're not giving out discounts to anyone as they have planned. I'd be surprised if they move 100 of them, so using the remaining for marketing is a good backup option.

2) Will it wind up being the flop of the century?
Flop in terms of sales? I don't know. Baden seems to be a realistic guy, and I'm sure he knows the market for $4k sunglasses isn't large. Hell, they had trouble moving a $600 C100 Gascan even when there was wider distribution. So I would figure they do not believe it will sell out completely. Perhaps it'll meet sales expectations with that in mind.

3) Why would anyone consider the new TB to be Elite?
It's expensive and it has unique material (for Oakley anyway) in it.

4) Will they toss one out at the next Co-Pilot event?? That is realistically the only way the vast majority of us will get one or can justify it.
I would be willing to put a bet on it.

It's pretty cruel and unusual to put 50 Oakley fanatics in a room and toss out just 1 C Six. While those are better odds than we would normally ever have of getting a pair - it's just evil to torture everyone else.

Better idea: Just randomly ship a pair out, once a month during 2010, to an o-review member. Now THAT would be a surprise in the mail.

I'll be curious to see how well they sell. I don't think they're all that good looking, certainly nothing to justify paying 4 Large.

I wouldn't be surprised if Oakley or their reps hand pick the athletes and celebrities who these are really meant for.

When you think about it, it doesn't make sense to randomly distribute 250 pairs of glasses which cost $4000 to authorized retailers around the world which may or may not sell. Millionaire and billionaire people don't really care about wearing Oakley either, and rather would be wearing something more prestigious, even if the glasses cost $4000...(those type of people on the flipside might be extremely down to earth and think something like regular Oakleys are 'too expensive').

With the technology and machining background involved in this pair, it is safe to say it will be F1 people, Indy, Race Teams/Owners, and high end athletes that will buy them for the most part. Most people don't care about billet carbon fiber, they like billet metal.

Don't underestimate the carbon fiber fans. They can be as rabid as Oakley fans. They really, really love the stuff, though I don't know if they'd rather buy another spoiler for their riced up car rather than a pair of glasses.

Impressive. Better than expected.

Those would be mine if i lived in an alternate universes where I would jam $4K under a leg to even-up a wobbly table.

Unfortunate these will be so rare and practically unobtainable.

I know this is going to sound really blasphemous, but, I actually like the look of the aluminum model better than the cf version.

And the design is growing on me. Not enough to make me even consider putting out that kind of cash, but, enough that I really really really would like to try them on and see how they fit.

That said, if I was shown the pit boss and the c six, and was told that they were priced identical, with no "limited edition" type things to either model, I would choose the pit boss hands down.

Nice find on the writeup though! I enjoyed it.

The deal with the CF fans is most prefer the high gloss look and the newer angled weave look, at least on all the Hondas and lame 2 stroke sounding, black ring around the muffler spot on the bumper imports here on the West Coast...The wings make for great push bars when the cheap tires on the crappy black hubcap-less wheels up front go out and you have to push the car...Or when they just run out of gas because all the gauges on the dash (with c/f faces mind you) don't read correct because their wiring is ghetto...

Who knows, Oakley may sell a pair to one of those guys...Then again, that is a couple B-whatever or Spoon engines for them to screw up also. HAHA

You put it out there, so I had to rant. HAHAHAHA

**Disclaimer** If I offended anyone, get over it. Stickers and bolt on junk don't make your car faster (unless of course you use squeeze and then you just are compensating for something really small, your engine), neither does a noisy muffler or lack of...

Nothing if you own a Chinese Restaurant. Otherwise keep the 2 strokes attached to chainsaws and on 2 wheels in the dirt. Hondas and all are decent cars, but the way these morons tweak them to sound like utter SH!T and look absolutely STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPID with the cheesy fiberglass body kits that don't fit or line up, primer paint, and black steel wheels just makes me want to puke. I love to see one (almost a dozen per day, Bruin you know what I am saying) with the black ring of death on the bumper from it cooking oil like a popcorn popper, looking all nasty, with some dumba$$ smoking in the car half way hanging out the window thinking he looks cool! Just pure stupid.

Just like the hacks the fook up a euro and try to rice it up!!! Should line them all up, kick them in their heads, and give them a real crash course in car customizing. Euros are classy, that is why Toyota/Lexus always try knocking off the look and style. Tune them proper, dress them nice, and there is no problem. Pep Boys customize one all to hell and get laughed at and be proud to look retarded. Man I hate to get going on this topic since these fools trash perfectly good cars so bad.

Funny thing, I've got an Acura Integra that I figure I'd rice up one day just because it's sitting there doing nothing. If you hated ricers before, you'll hate it even more after mine, since I'd figure I'd go completely cheesy with it.

visit a local Pep Boys if you have one. They can hook you up proper like...Tow hooks, APC Clear Tailights, Projector headlights without lenses, sony IMPLODE stereo components, dash mount dynos, man they got you covered...They even have tons of that cool led lit crap for the dash and shift knobs. Just make sure they give you some Soy Sauce with all that rice crap. HAHA

Getting back to the glasses, I think one of the coolest things they did was NOT do the standard carbon look of a perfect weave with a gloss clearcoat.

That's just plain ol' different thinking right there. And now that I have seen a good pic, I really like it. Carbon fiber is a really interesting material and having constructed my own pair, I love this new direction. There is so much depth and dimension to carbon done this way. If you are a geeky fan like me, you can spend a long time just looking at the thing to see how the material blends together.

Up to now, pretty much every carbon fiber item you'd ever see was made of a form with an intact sheet covering it. Oakley went a completely opposite direction, treating the carbon more like a metal and machining it, and I think that's totally sweet.

Agreed, the pattern on it is different than traditional CF stuff. It reminds of the CF used in AP's forged carbon cases:
