I'm a very proud Texan/American, but this cap was too dope to pass up. It's part of the "Cooperstown Collection" and is super SIKK!!!

Awesome. I love(d) the Expos (the '94 strike still stings). Great pickup.

I always thought the Expo's logo spelled out e-l-b. I thought it was French or something. It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I realized it was a stylized "M". I'm an idiot...or was...

Montreal Expos Baseball. Stylized M from the entire logo, E in red, B in blue. I don't know what's going on with the white part left over. I've always thought it looked like "ello" more than anything.

RIP Expos. There will never be another.

well an unexpected find today and i couldnt resist adding another watch to my watch collection, not an oakley but just as nice never the less, especially as my 2 WANTS for this year was an omega and a brietling watch.....its an omega seamaster planet ocean 600m....the same as what james bond wears but without the 007 branding....

it does have an after market strap (the shop sold the original to someone who wanted it) so i will change to a proper omega rubber strap, but that was part of the bargaining tool.

LOL. Your modesty is funny, since most know Omegas are leaps and bounds above anything Oakley puts out. :-D

Congrats on the Planet Ocean. It's an absolutely amazing watch with a great movement. Just a recommendation: Try to get the bracelet rather than the strap; The PO bracelet is probably the second most comfortable bracelet Omega makes IMO (second only to the Bond bracelet).

Paul - hate to say this mate but do you have more detailed pics of the watch? I've just compared it to my Planet Ocean and I think yours may be counterfeit...

Notice the lume circle on the bezel at 12 and where the He escape valve lines up with the 50.

Damn, nice pic of the PO, Ford. Is that a caliber 2500 version (just judging by the white "Seamaster" script and not knowing if they did a caliber 8500 with white script)?

Thanks Oak, just a really quick and dirty pic with my iPhone.

It is indeed the 2500 - the 8500 has an applied 'OMEGA' logo and numbers (which are also closed off, not 'open' like mine) and the 'Seamaster' is in red. And the arrowheads are the same on the 8500.

Handled an 8500 in Singapore and my goodness is it a beautiful watch - LOVE the sapphire caseback and love the movement! The new changes make the watch look a bit busier, but not bad or anything. I'm also very happy with mine, don't see a point in upgrading (considering the price hike too!).

I also tried on the Speedmaster 9300 and that is the next one on my list - I love how the back is completely sapphire and you can see everything!

And flippj - if you did unfortunately get a replica I hope you can return it! Sounds like you got it from a shop which should make things easier.

Yeah, the PO w/8500 and Speedy w/9300 are gorgeous. I was taking a look at some Timezone pics recently, and it certainly does move me to go see it in person.

ford-i hear ya

well, i spent alot of time looking at these and reading the reviews and both of these things commonly get questioned as poor points on fakes, BUT speaking to the guy in the shop i mentioned both these and he said that the HE valve position does vary slightly on models-he told me the common thought that the HE valve should be between 10 and 11 doesnt always apply.....as for the lume circle on the bezel, well, i cant comment at the mo.....but they are different agreed mate.

i purchased from a shop so im going to take it back in today to see what they say, but ive bought many watches from them in the past and they are a nationwide chain.....

you got me doubting now lol.....

ill try and take some more pics when i can...

Best of luck Paul - if you get stuck or if they try to talk down these points you should head on over to the Watchuseek Omega forum. A great bunch of guys with far more knowledge than me about all things Omega and watches. If you post a couple of pics and your story they should be able to give you heaps of great advice.

I know from reading posts there that the easiest way to spot a replica Planet Ocean is the lume dot and the position of the He valve. As far as I am aware, Omega do not change the positioning of the valve ever.

thanks ford, ill get reading on this now-looks a good site....

ive got a colleague in the office where i work and he has a seamaster and his HE valve is in exactly the same position as mine but his lumen circle is the same as yours-his is 100% legit shop bought as he's selling it also and he has all the paperwork/original reciept from omega (when they done some work on it)......i dont know what to think now......

Nice find!! Such a classic style. And what a bargain!! I would take that watch over the FMJ any day of the week. In ten years that watch will still hold it's value and you will be able to get it worked on. Nothing against the FMJ, but I just to see why it cost so much. But, what do I know. I just own Breitlings, TAG Hueurs, and U-boats.

Been a while since I looked at U-Boat, but the FMJ's price seems inline with U-Boat's limited editions (such as the $7,600 Classico) by having a bracelet instead of a strap. The FMJ seems heavily influenced by watches from Graham and U-Boat in many ways(including the use of the same chronometer-rated 7750 movement), so it does not surprise me their LEs are in the same pricing segment.

Here is what I will tell you about U-boats. They are a nice design. I get alot of questions about them. But, the cases are soft, the straps last about a week(and then are expense to replace) and the clasps are weak. Plus the springbar they use is too weak as well. On more then one occasion the watch has fallen off my wrest causing damage. They need to use screws instead of springbars. Finally, they do not hold their value like a Breitling or a Heuer. Plain and simple. The design do because out dated because they are more of a fashion then a true classic design like the Omega, Rolex, and Breitlings. Not to mentions they are much more rugged and can take abuse. But the watch that is still the most rugged, reliable, and keeps good time is the good old Timex Iron Man. I will also say the Formex I have are pretty good too.

That sounds like TAG in the early 2000s. 99% of the price was in the brand name and marketing rather than quality movements/material. TAG has been able to turn it around since then so hopefully U-Boat can do the same.

Holding value really is a function of how much you buy the watch for. Most watches tend to drop 50% of its MSRP once it leaves the store. Rolex, Patek and a small number of other brands tend to be the exception due to their high demand factor (some of their watches even sell for above retail right out of the gate on the secondary market, like the stainless steel Rolex Daytona). Part of this is because of the deep discounting that's done. Some authorized dealers can discount 30-35% right off the bat, so that contributes to secondary market value. I never recommend buying at MSRP unless you can't help it. If you buy at the deep discounted prices, pretty much most popular watch brands will hold value.
