Hey, I know that a bunch of you have already had the most amazing time. (Co-Pilots) And I was just thinking that since I'm going to be travelling around a little bit with my wife for her comic conventions (she writes and draws a comic, as well as some drawn essays, illustrations and t-shirts), that it might be possible to meet up with some of you.

This weekend coming up (April 18, 19) we're going to be in Portland, Oregon for the Stumptown comics fest. I don't know of any members there?

Next weekend (April 25, 26) we're going to be in Calgary for the Calgary Comic Expo. I mentioned it to Oak a while ago, but he might not be in town at the time. Rick, are you around then? Anyone else?

Beginning of May (I think the 9th and 10th) we'll be in Toronto for TCAF. Again, I can't think of any members from there?

Of course, we'll be at San Diego for San Diego comic-con. I believe that's the last week of July. I'll have to check the dates again.

In the fall we are planning on going to Maryland for SPX. We'll also be back in San Francisco in October?

If anyone is in any of those towns, let me know. It would be alot of fun to meet up with you guys!

Mike

PS, Damn, I just realized, I haven't even met up with Ken, and he's from Vancouver!

I am about 1.5 hours from San Diego, so a meet up would be cool...Let me know. We can hit HQ and you can hopefully see all the vehicles and tank...Then you can hit Gaslamp O Store, Spectrum, and the local Vaults..

How far is HQ from the gaslamp district?

I've been to the gaslamp store. Haven't been to the other two places though.

It'd be awesome to meet up with you!

Rick,
Will do. The convention is right near the saddledome, It's at Stampede park, the roundup center I think?

Saturday is always the day that I have to totally stay at our booth. Sunday is my day to roam around a bit, so if it's at all possible for you to come on the Sunday, that'd be awesome.

Josh,
Sounds like a little bit of a trek, since I won't have a vehicle this year at comic-con. Also, I can't really leave the convention center during show hours, which would make it tough to head out there. I really would love to make it out to HQ though. Might have to figure out a way to stretch the visit an extra day to go.

Oogie,
Heh, not a superfan. :D Although I did love comics growing up, and I still enjoy them nowadays (but man are they expensive. No more 10 cent comics :P ) I had never been to a comic convention until my wife started exhibiting at them. She's a writer/artist ( http://www.realgonegirl.com ) and does her ongoing autobio series called jobnik! , as well as some drawn essay pieces, some illustration work, and she designs and hand screen prints t-shirts. She also enjoyed comics growing up, and while going to art school, she turned some of her projects into comic books and drawn essays. (She calls them drawn essays, they're fully illustrated essays.)

2005 was when she first started exhibiting, and we've been going to more and more conventions ever since. It's actually been alot of fun. Nearly every artist we've met has been awesome. And the fans have been equally as nice in most cases.

So, yeah, we don't have a shop, but we do exhibit at these shows where she sells her comics, essays and t-shirts.

Rick,
Hey, just because some of the fans are ugly,,,,,,,,, :P

Actually, Calgary is a neat show because it's an entertainment expo. There is actors and other stuff at the show. There's been some pretty kewl looking costumes in the past there as well.

I still think you all just need to come to Hawaii for a week. I still got some vacation time left.

My wife is dying to go back to Hawaii.

I haven't been since, maybe 1990? Somewhere around there.

Do they have any comic conventions? :D

Pfeh. I wish. We could do with more events like that. You have no idea how much I wish I could be up in the mainland so I could attend Anime conventions, Star Wars cons, movie premieres, etc.
I'm a huge dork, and I know it. But I have fun!

It's funny, because Hawaii has a huge amount of manga/anime fans, I would have thought they'd at least have that kind of convention.

A lady I met at a convention a long time back, and still see at most California conventions used to do a comic in Hawaii called "Bento Box" it was kind of a 'slice of hawaii life' comic. Pretty neat. :)

My buddy and I got in a dust-up with some comic collectors in San Diego back in 2000. I won't go into details, but we almost scrapped it out in the motel parking lot. And, it was THEM that were the aggressors!

That's what you get for claiming wolverine could take superman in a fight.

Nothing's worse than being shanked with a Star Wars toy at a comic book convention.

Superman's a puss. One tiny little green rock can take him down, no problem.

I'll take Spawn any day of the week.

I think there'd be a market for a Oogie vs. Dann fight. Oogie dressed as Wolverine, Dann as Superman.

Rick,
Was that in San Diego for the big comic-con? I'm trying to book a hotel this year, and man, rates near the gaslamp district start at around $400 a night. Not fun.

Oak and Rick,
Do you know if there's a Best Buy not too far from Stampede Park? I'm thinking I might take off right after the show closes on Saturday and rush out to grab the Nikon D90 and save myself some PST.

I think the show ends at 7 on Saturday, but I need to double check. We usually get to the show about an hour before it opens, and it takes an hour or so to tear down at night.

With that beard, I'd think better Thor, than Superman...

Wouldn't you?

LOL. Nice Photoshop pic, Yukio. I'm sure Dann will enjoy that one. Thor works well with a Splice on. Whimpy hammer, though (more like a mallet). But I guess if you've got cool shades like the Splice on, you really don't need a big hammer.

I wouldn't say it's near, but it's not far. It's in a part of the city called Deerfoot Meadows. Take the highway going south and exit off of the exit AFTER Glenmore Trail (can't remember the name right now). Can't miss it. Futureshop's there as well. Fatburger, too. LOL.

That is too funny Yukio !

I just got back from meeting with o-review members and its always a blast, so much to talk about and do.

Do not let Rick near the cosplay players at the convention, he might go violent on them, with good reasons !

Big thanks to Oak and Rick for coming out to the Calgary comic expo. I really have to apologize for not spending more time chatting with you guys.

I had to take my business card over to one of the other vendors, and when I got back, my wife told me you guys had come back to say goodbye and head for lunch. I had hoped to get stuff done to go with you guys. I'm really sorry that we didn't get to talk more. Hope you guys enjoyed the show a bit.

Mike
