i have some white gascans that are yellow from smoke damage and i am thinking about painting them. any recommendations as to how i should go about it, and what type of paint i should use?
I did some monster dogs too. Clean them well to remove any oils, but be careful, I had a pair of Grape Gascans completely crack up when I used Isopropyl Alcohol. NO ACETONE, try lacquer thinner. I also used a lacque based paint and it stuck real well. Again, I lean to hobby r/c paints to spray on mine since they are meant for plastics and lexan and meant to bend.
I had no pron using Acetone to clean paint off a frame. Use the acetone on a q-tip, swab, and immediately rinse with cold water. I don't think it would be any good for removing stains/discolorations though.
no primer here. I was using the color of the frame as a base coat, so no need. Also the frame was new, so nicks or marks to fill which didn't require any primer
which kind did you use? Wait until the end of the week or so, you will see some painted works too! Here is a taste of what's to come...hope this is okay...It's okay to drool!
airbrush only for me bro...I played with a new brush I picked up a while back on the bay by Iwata...Never thought there would be much of a difference in quality airbrushes but damn, was I ever wrong. The control is so much better in an Iwata over a Badger or Paasche. So much more so that I listed all of my other airbrushes on Ebay to replace them with 1 or more Iwatas...Very good tool if you are into or want to explore airbrushing. I prefer the Spaz Stix brand of paints over most. They lay down real smooth, have awesome colors, and just flat work.
not so much painted frames as it is frame parts, but here is a batch of icons I was playing with tonight. Purple anodized, green anodized, and orange anodized along with an attempt at a US Flag icon....All hand painted and nobody will have anything like them...What do you think?
thanks guys. originally I didn't put the stars, but I figured that attention to details is key in doing customs. I actually am the least happy with the flags because of the color bleed (minor) so there will be new ones in the future. I may even strip them and try again. The stars (dots) were tough since they are so small. More to come for sure though...
anytime...you really have to see these in person to make a judgement. they have more depth to them than the regular colored ones from Oakley. Don't get me wrong, the factory ones are nice, but these pop a bit more. More like colored mirror vs colored metal.
Not sure I even want to ask this ... but Josh, what does a fair airbrush system run if I was interested in giving some of these things a shot? I know you just upgraded to the Bentley's of airbrushes ... but any suggestions for the reasonable person?
I had a decent go at painting my Hijinx icons, and had a good time planning it out. But I'm sure the professional results are to be had with the airbrush ... and it just might be fun to mutiliate soome cheap/older styles that might come my way from time to time.
funny you ask. I have my others I am selling off. PM me for info, my original stuff was all painted with my Badger or Paasche brushes. I have 3 I can part out or sell all as a whole cheap. You can spend anywhere from $40 for a decent cheap brush, to $400+. The Badger I started with was about $70 plus the hose. I have a 30gal Craftsman compressor I was using, but just bought the Iwata Smart Jet which is AWESOME! but is tricky to get used to compared to a tank compressor.
I found the paint is a huge part of any job. I mean that is kind of basic knowledge, but having messed with lacquers, enamels, water based, and auto urethanes, they make a difference. It can get real costly investing in the paint. That is why I stick with the r/c stuff since I don't use much, and I can use it on more than 1 project/hobby. I am not even close to being any sort of expert, so it is a learning curve for me and anyone who wants to tackle this...feel free to message me anytime
