Two Oakley stories.

First, I was going to Italy for a trip and decided I would have to get RayBans there since they are Italian frames. I searched all over and ended up buying a pair of Oakleys in Rome! Jupiter Squared that are blue with white sides. Even more ironic is that I live a few miles from Oakley headquarters!

Second, my dad had a pair of Oakley Why 8.2s. He passed away and I ended up with the glasses. So they had a lot of meaning to me. Sadly, while walking at the beach, I got hit by a wave that knocked them off and into the water. I could never find them again. I've been trying to find a replacement pair. But I can't find them anywhere. Suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,
Jay

Welcome. Glad you chose Oakley over the Ray-bans. Many more styles to choose from I feel from an aesthetic point of view, plus all the technical reasons.

Sorry to hear about your father. For most discontinued glasses, ebay or other third party channels are the main source. For some recently discontinued models, 6pm.com or online retailers sometimes have closeout deals, but the Why 8.2 has been out of production for a while.

Thanks to you both. I'll keep looking. I have to say, I'm not completely wild about the Chrome Iridium lenses on the Jupiters I got. It just doesn't seem as crisp as the Why 8.2 or (gasp) my old RayBans. So I really need to find a replacement. I might look at the Nanowires because they look very similar to the Whys.

Nanowires were an interesting release, but I found that they tended to cause a lot of fracture lines around where the stems meet the lens. The Tailback might be an option since it's a newer release and can be easily found.

Hmm. So I just spent some time looking at the Tailback... then I found the Tailpin. I know, totally different from dad's pair. But I'm afraid I'm going to have to check those out in person (and then keep looking for a Why 8.2).

Yeah, they're not exact or even close, but they fit the rimless design, and you don't have to fight the scalpers for them. I still need to grab a few from the Why 8.x line too for the collection.
