Ever since the Jupiter Carbon was released, there have been a handful of WTF-priced products including the new Raw Madman and the blackline carabiners. And this likely won't change any time soon. In fact, we'll likely get more as the years roll on.
The SF16-C will certainly fall into that WTF price category and likely lead the pack because of its high MSRP. Most people will see it as a little bit of CF, a little bit of Ti, and a whole lot of cheap O matter. Now, the marketing called it injected Carbon O Matter, what that actually is is anyone's guess at this point until they educate us. Until then, collectors will remain perplexed about the value of the product.
There are rumours that there will be 2,000 or 2,200 made. There are also rumours from those who have inside connections that say it will not be serialized. What this translates to is the ability to make a lot more if it sells well. Surely Oakley and Ferrari want to sell as much as possible to their respective fanbase to capitalize on what is likely an expensive collaboration, but it further degrades the value in collectors' eyes.
As for myself, I'll likely be getting it no matter what. The way it looks like it fits and can be adjusted seems like it will be perfect for me, and even if it doesn't end up fitting well, it'll be a good display piece. March can't come fast enough, but I am 100% certain my fellow collectors won't be sharing my enthusiasm.
