Greetings from Down Under! Tried doing my own rust decay on some old Raybans first. I also rust decayed a small torpedo case to match.....and yes, the frames do close and open! :)

Thanks guys!

If you're in Australia, and want your Oakleys done custom rust decay, I'll do them for you. I live in Adelaide.

PM me a picture of your sunglasses and I'll work out a price. Whole process takes about a week depending on what you want done.

You must send me the frames ONLY in a protective box (or sunglasses case). I will not take responsibility for your lenses as removal and reinsertion for certain models can be problematic, and iridium lenses particularly, can get scratched easily.

Tape (or indicate clearly) the areas of the frame you do not wish to have rust decay.

Let me know whether you only want to do the outer edges of the frame done, or you want the whole frame done. Tell me if you want the coated areas lightly sanded (improves bonding with rust coat, but means that there will be micro scratches on the frame should you remove the rust coat).

I can do any of the metal vaults or torpedo cases, but please send them without the foam lining.

I will return finished product by registered mail and well padded.

Please note that it is real rust (and not rust coloured brown/orange paint) that gives the effect.

I can put a "clear coat" over the rust decay.

Pros of "clear coat"
- Probably minimises risk of small particles coming loose

Cons of "clear coat"
- Makes appearance of rust decay look slightly darker (as opposed to a more orange colour). The Raybans I did, have been given a clear coat.

Disclaimer - I'll do the best job I can, and happily rust decay your frames at your OWN risk. If you're unhappy with their appearance when I finish, then I'm afraid it's tough cookies. The rusting process is unpredictable but unique.

Bought some Oakley valve sunglasses second hand and decided to rust decay them because of their worn paint job. Quite happy with the result!

Very nice. Any plans for doing the same to the lugs, but in a slightly different color

Thanks Dann,
Admittedly, I'm not very artistic, so I left the colour alone. In any case, I wasn't sure how to remove the "O" insignia.

Do you have any suggestions?

I usually use a pin or a very small flathead screw driver. It's just doublesided tape, so it will lift off with some force.

Oh! Didn't realise that they were just stuck on!!!! Is that true for all the "O" symbols on their newer sunglasses?

Yes, they should be. I did a Garage Rock swap recently, and even the metal banding was held on with doublesided tape. The only one I've found to be different so far is the Fatcat, which had a putty of sorts under the heavystretch logo.
