Can anyone tell me what generation these e-wires are? (sorry for dangling participle)
I'll gladly supply additional photos.

Daahhh....photo upload not working for me. Thoughts? Possible size constraints? (1.3MB & 1.7MB)

Gen 2 of the original release. The faux hammer on the earsocks should be pointing outward, not down, but that was a common user adjustment performed in that era.

That said, the screws look a little off on the temple. I feel like they should be more flush.

Thanks for the prompt feedback.

The reason for my query.....my lens are original and a little beat up. I saw a "new, original" gen 2 gold iridium pair of lens for sale at a decent price. I emailed the seller stating that I did not know the generation of my glasses, but that they were purchased new in 1994-1996. He stated that gen 2's were not marketed until 1999, so mine had to be gen 1.

So now I'm really confused. Is there any way that I could have bought Oakley e-wire gen 2.0 sunglasses from a brick-and-mortar bike shop in mid 1990's? (I re-married in 1999, so am quite certain that I had the glasses at least a few years prior to that date.

I did take advantage of the old Oakley re-furbish program and mailed the glasses to Oakley in the early 2000's for a general tune-up....I had no critical damage. I'm sure I would have noticed if I sent in a gen 1 and they returned a gen 2. Wouldn't I?

Thoughts?

To clarify there was the original debuting in 1993 which had flat hammer stems, but a similar hinge. Then in 1998 it moved to the same arms as the A Wire, with the large faux hammer earsocks. In 2001, the 2.0 came out, and used the universal wire earsocks, and integrated the hinge a bit more.

In essense, there's 1.0 - Gen 1, 1.0 - Gen 2, and 2.0

Dann,
Thanks again for your time and thoughts.

I just discovered your database. Now I am confused. Not being an Oakley "aficionado", when seeing the terms "E-Wire Gen 2" and E-Wire 2.0, I naively assumed that they were the same thing.
Am I to understand that there were "E-Wire 1.0 Gen 1", "E-Wire 1.0 Gen 2", E-Wire 2.0 (no Gen designation), and "E-Wire 2.0 (no Gen designation)? And that when someone refers to E-Wire Gen 2, it is really E-Wire 1.0 Gen 2?

FYI. My right stem, bow, arm has an "CE" on it. The only other writing is the "OAKLEY" on the bridge. Does this help determine their model?
I have also never had the earsocks off. Might there be identifying markings there?

Generally Gen 2 would refer to the 1.0 (though they were never called 1.0, as that's a retroactive name), since the 2.0 didn't have any generations. But it wouldn't be uncommon for someone to say gen 2, and mean the 2.0. Generations are a community driven term, as Oakley has never cared much as long as the products didn't co-exist on the market. Even Jim Jannard when he posted here called the New M Frame (the one still around) a Gen 2, despite being in the same boat with the original version having 2 generations. We've had to invent and define most of these terms, and it makes some portions of the database a little tricky to organize.

Visually it may be best.

Dann,
Thank you very much. I think those photos did the trick. I'm relatively certain that mine matches the "E Wire Gen 2" photo. That is the only one that has such distinctive earsocks.

Thank you for your time and expertise.

You may never be rid of me..... :-)

One last question. I promise.

To your knowledge are any of the E-Wire Gen 1, E-Wire Gen 2, E-Wire 2.0, or E-Wire 2.1 lens interchangeable?

I'm not sure to be honest. Wires can be tricky since they're so precise. The original two generations should be fine, since it was just a stem change, but I wouldn't bet on the 2.0.

Correct on the 2.0 being incompatible with the previous two.
The 2.1 is unique as well.
