Great review. Looks like a fair amount of work went into it. As an addition, G30 does actually have a light iridium coating. G30 refers to the base and the iridium, so you can have G30 Black (base) but also G30 Persimmon (coating). However it's so light of a coating, it's just splitting hairs. The similar P42 iridium has a similar coating, and it's barely any different than persimmon.

Thanks for the great review. I actually find myself not really having a problem buying glasses with the non iridium coatings. I'm to the point where I treat every color with respect because they each serve their own individual lighting situation. Another plus is it saves you some money if you should need to buy a replacement set.

My only issue with non-iridium is the scratching. I know SGH pushed the 'scratch resistant' marketing back in the day, and many thought it was untrue, but the iridium actually does prevent a lot of minor damage. Iridium tends to crack and flake off with enough force, but until that point, it stays relatively untouched. Without it, the plutonite base is free to dent and mold to everything it comes in contact. I've noticed that with my Wife's carelessness as well as preowned pairs I've purchased, pitting (or w/e you call the small pin pricks) was also an issue with non-Iridium lenses.

I had a Grey lenses M Frame Slash mailed to me in newspaper in a box that was too big, the lens rubbing against the side of the box, the whole time. It wasn't pretty. - Dann

Yeah I had no idea about all the stuff you talked about Dann. You are an effervescent fountain of Oakley knowledge ;-).

I especially had no idea the G30 has a slight iridium coating. As for non-iridium lenses (and maybe this is just me) but I actually find it easier to keep them in good condition (it's too easy to get "micro-scratches" sometimes on the plutonite even though the plutonite looks hellacool).

By the way Ruben -- bummer about the Fire Ten lens. Tens are an underrated pair and fire looks great in those.
